I once had a vision of Jesus during a gentle worship session when I was 16 years old.
I remember in the vision, I was staring out and waiting. Suddenly, I saw a man, who I automatically knew was Jesus without any words spoken. His foot, with anticipation, was stepping onto a cloud. On from the cloud, he was coming to this earth. This man was on his way to see us.
Suddenly I heard the words, “I am coming.”
He was so close to me. He was so close to us. He is on his way.
What would you do if you knew Jesus’s second coming was near?
In other words, what would you do if you knew the world was ending soon? Really really soon?
How would you react? What would you do? Would you be afraid that our lives were ending? How would you spend the last moments of your life on this earth?
What will happen to humanity after? If you believe in God, do you rejoice in the thought of being face to face with God? Do you believe there's nothing after death? Do you believe in heaven or hell? If you believe Jesus is the only way to heaven, do you wonder what would happen to those who don’t believe?
So, after my vision of Jesus ended, my immediate thought was “Prepare the way of the Lord.”
In that very moment, I was filled with tears, tears of excitement. I couldn’t stop jumping up and down with joy! Why? Because I was ecstatic to finally get to meet my lover and Savior of my life! The realization that he was coming soon suddenly felt so real.
That moment was when I set my life direction and purpose, to prepare the way for his second coming.
The bible states that Jesus came and died on the cross for our sins, and he will come again. John the Baptist, lived his entire life preparing for Jesus' second coming. How did he do it?
He went through the desert and all around telling of who Jesus was. Unashamed, he proclaimed that he was the savior of the world, to come and repent, and to celebrate his return.
He didn’t live of the world, but only lived in it. He didn’t allow the world to diverge his focus and ultimate hope, that Jesus is coming. He believed without hesitance, without any distractions, he lived his life to prepare for it.
Likewise, I wanted to structure my life to glorify Jesus, to live like John did.
But why are we so easily distracted by things that are so temporary?
We worry so much about things we can’t change or control and we are easily swayed by the world.
What the world says, what people think, and the patterns of this world easily deter us from living with a purpose.
How simple would life be if we only had one thing in our minds? We only thought about one thing from the moment we wake up and to when we sleep, knowing that its the only thing that really matters in the very end.
How simple would that be, but oh how hard it is to apply and do?
Passion fades, moments of excitement dies down because we are so forgetful. I simply realize how we need a refreshed mind and need to be reminded every morning to set our minds on things that matter, things that are eternal.
