Virtual Reality

A game changer in the field of technology.

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is a new, up and coming feature that will be of huge value in our modern world. It is done by putting on a headset which has a small screen on the inside and once you put it on you are transported to basically anywhere you want to be, as you move you see everything that is going on around you in a 3D and 360 degrees way. Virtual reality is not only changing the world of video games but also the way we do business and experience new things.

Virtual reality can be used for playing video games. The idea was basically first just going to be used for a video game purpose but was soon later realized it could be used for so much more. Imagine putting on a headset and suddenly you are thrown into a Call of Duty World War 2 battle, or you are a Jedi fighting Darth Vader, or, my personal favorite, in your favorite sporting venue playing with your favorite professional team scoring the game-winning goal with over 50,000 people cheering for you. It would be quite an experience. Although it wouldn't actually be real, to you it would feel very real. Virtual reality stimulates our sense of feeling, seeing, tasting, hearing, and smelling. Amazing right?

Virtual reality can be used for business. Say you have a business meeting in Tokyo, Japan but you are snowed in at Syracuse, New York. Instead of having a skype call where it could freeze at any time or might be hard to communicate due to volume controls, distance, or slow wifi, all you will have to do is put on the virtual reality headset, make the call to them, and it will feel like you are in the room with them. You will be able to see and hear and touch and smell everything they can and it will be just like you are actually at the meeting and not like you are on your couch at home.

It can also be used and is being used for military training. You can have recruits put it on and give them a war simulation. Not only will it just give them a simulation but you can also have different scenarios to show them what to do when something doesn't go as planned or something goes wrong. This may just help save more American lives in war.

Live streaming is also an incredibly cool feature on virtual reality. Imagine your favorite band, singer, or DJ is having a major concert in a part of the world you can't get to inexpensively, or a sports game you want to go to so bad. You will simply have to live to stream it on your headset and it will be like you are in the front row best seat in the house experiencing it but in the comfort of your own home and for no cost!

Right now there are a few different options for virtual reality headsets. There is the new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge which has a virtual reality feature on it. It can't do everything but is still a nice feature to have on a phone especially if you have many business meetings. There is the Oculus Rift which is now taking orders and is a bit more pricey. There are also many headsets that you can buy which you just slip your phone in and if the video you watching has the 360 tilt and rotate then you can simply use the headset. These headsets run anywhere from $10-360.

Virtual reality is a very cool use of technology that we are starting to see more and more of and is changing the way we can do and experience so many different things. Virtual reality is a major game changer in the field of technology and I can't wait to start using it and see how it develops in the upcoming years.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
