The popular mobile app, Vine, recently announced that they will be discontinuing the app in the near future. Vine first came out in early 2013 and quickly became a sensation due to its unique concept of users only being able to post 6-second videos. The app became a popular platform for users to create content in a new and individual way.
Personally, I am deeply saddened to see Vine go. Despite the fact that Vine gave us Magcon, it was still a light in all of our lives. Honestly, 95% of my sentences start out with "Have you seen that one Vine where..." Some of my favorite memories will always be me sitting in a basement with all of my friends from high school watching Vines for hours on end and sharing them with each other. I am so glad I was able to exist at a time where I could watch 6-second videos of dogs falling down stairs on a loop for as long as I could possibly want to. The endless hours of laughter that it has brought us is something we can all be appreciative of.
Something else that I always admired about Vine was the sense of community. Although I never got my big break, I was always happy for those who did. I remember when the app first came out and following my favorite people and as time went on, watching them do things they never imagined doing. I would imagine that this is what sending your kids to college would feel like. I loved watching my favorite Viners collaborate with each other or seeing them meet up in person. I loved seeing the friendships it created and the wonderful opportunities it brought people who truly deserved it.
So, thank you, Vine. I enjoyed watching for the past 4 years and I am so thankful for all the laughs.
