We can all admit that graduation day is something we have all looked forward to since we entered high school, but looking back on the high school experience, it can kind have a bittersweet feeling.
Pros
1. No more early morning alarms.
Hitting the snooze button seven times on a Monday morning to avoid waking up at the crack of dawn was always a nuisance. Graduating can really help you catch up on some sleep!
2. Leaving the nest!
Sure leaving home can be a daunting task but not having parental eyes watching your every move you can finally be free to adventure without concern!
3. A New Start.
To get away from the kids you have known all your life can most definitely be a good thing. Having a fresh start at a new school where no one knows you yet can be healthy for a person!
4. Not having to deal with filler classes.
Why struggle through a pre-calculus when you want to be a writer? In college you can focus your studies more independently on what you want to do.
5. Having your own space.
And no, I don't just mean having your own room. I mean a dorm that you can do what you want. No parents telling you to clean your room is probably the best part of your own space. Like, who doesn't love decorating a space they can call their own?
6. NO DRESS CODE!
No annoying assistant principal to tell you your skirt is too short or your straps aren't thick enough or especially that your outfit is “too distracting.” Leaving high school gives you the freedom to wear and be who you want with no restrictions.
With every good reason there is always something keeping you back
Cons of leaving for college
- “#Loans4Life”
With going to college comes tuition, and with tuition comes loans. Who knew venturing out into the real world and educating yourself in your field of interest could be so expensive? College loans can haunt you for years into your life.
2. Leaving your friends and family.
Although escaping from the eye of your family may be a plus, you have to admit you will miss them in the long run. When you are having a rough day you may miss having your mom down the hall from you. Let's not even start on leaving your friends. Having your best buds whom you hung out with every day now be an hour or more away from you can be mentally damaging.
3. Living Alone.
Depending on the living arrangement, living by yourself can be a hassle. Especially for those whose only cooking skill is boiling pasta. Also, doing your own laundry every week can add up in expenses while also being an inconvenience.
4. Being an adult.
You need to learn to get yourself out of bed and go to class. Mom and Dad may have been there to keep you on track in the past, but it is now your responsibility. Keeping yourself healthy is also a struggle that is so underrated. Sometimes without parents to tell you when dinner's ready, it is easy to forget when you are supposed to eat. Chinese food at 9am? Sounds okay to me.
5. Culture Shock
This is more of a big deal if you move further away, but really to anyone that is leaving home, there will be some type of change. The environment, the lifestyle, the town/city and the people will all be different from what you have grown used to.
At the end of the day, my advice to every senior high school class is to cherish the moments you have before they slip through your fingertips.
