Vehemently Against Violence

When we finally speak-out against these acts, maybe one day the world will know peace.

Today, we live in a society that is centered around violence. From news reports to video games, violence is the main focus and cause for interest. Rarely do we see positive images in the media or hear stories that don't involve some form of violent protest. We want to hear about the violence at Trump rallies, who was killed, or mass shootings. No one cares about a student excelling in school, businesses doing well, or people helping other people. Quite frankly, it disgusts me. There's so much pain already in this world from illnesses, loss, or accidents. We don't need to focus on hate from humanity, which makes our own destruction stem from ourselves. Don't you think that we should be more focused on helping each other survive this cruel world, instead of helping each other deteriorate?

It is our job to fight back for control. And no I don't mean literally fight. We need to have internal fights with ourselves, or an internal struggle if you will. Humans are emotional beings and self-control is a very trying concept. However, if we manage to wrestle with our impulses and reflect back on ourselves, it is possible to quench the thirst for violence. Violence is most definitely not the answer. The world will never know peace until it knows how to fully love.

By fully love, I mean that people understand how to love, but not to its full potential. To love fully, would be to love other individuals with no restrictions. If they disagree with you or make you angry in some form, violence wouldn't even cross your mind if you loved them fully. Yes, you could disagree or be angry at them too, but you would never want to fully hurt them.

Unfortunately, it is hard to love your enemies in this way and that is only promoted through values presented by today's society. Video games have been linked to various mass shootings. Movies involve a wide range of violence. Even in our political races, violence is being promoted. Everywhere you look, violence, violence, violence! It is insanity!

Robert F. Kennedy once said in a famous speech, "It is not the concern of any one race. The victims of the violence are black and white, rich and poor, young and old, famous and unknown. They are, most important of all, human beings whom other human beings loved and needed. No one - no matter where he lives or what he does - can be certain who will suffer from some senseless act of bloodshed. And yet it goes on and on."

That is one of my favorite quotes as it accurately sums up what I'm attempting to get at in this article. Bobby Kennedy knew how greatly violence affects not just the victim, but those who love the victim. There's not just one tragedy, but a ripple in the whole sea of people that are affected by it.

Although it may be hard to promote peace in a society in love with violence instead of love for each other, we should at least make an attempt to work on ourselves. Once we break the silence and finally speak out against these acts, maybe the world will one day know peace.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
