The Top 5 Reasons Why UW Is The Best School Out There

When it comes to universities, the University of Washington has to at least be within the top ten. With its gorgeous cherry blossoms, unparalleled on-campus diversity, and the ability to call Seattle home, UW is loved by almost everyone privileged enough to visit it, let alone attend it. However, if you haven't had the chance to visit, fear not.

Here are the top 5 best things about UW that every UW student can unanimously agree upon:

1. The Ave

Whether you want Mexican food on a warm summer day or a hot bowl of pho on a rainy winter evening, UW's got you covered. There is no cuisine The Ave hasn't seen. It's got everything from pad Thai to gyros. Some of the best places to eat include Little Thai, Burger Hut, and Rancho Bravo.

2. The Suzzallo Reading Room

If you are a fan of Harry Potter, the Suzzallo Reading Room will satisfy all your fantasies of attending Hogwarts. Known as "the Harry Potter Room," the Suzzallo Reading Room is a quiet study area that attracts tourists from all over the world. It is located in central campus on Red Square, and is home to the graduate library. With stained glass windows and multiple rustic chandeliers, the Suzzallo Reading Room is something you must visit at least once in your life.

3. The HUB

The HUB actually stands for "Husky Union Building," but in reality, it truly is a hub for most UW students. It has everything from Starbucks (which you can use your dining money at!), to a bowling alley. It's a great place to study, hang out with friends, or to work. One of the best parts of the HUB is its food court that has cuisines from all over the world, including a Subway (a true godsend). One level of the HUB is dedicated to games, which includes the bowling alley, pool tables, and plenty of video game consoles along with games. The HUB is also the home of ASUW, along with a few other different on-campus organizations; like I said, a true hub for students.

4. The IMA

If you are a workout junkie, the IMA is the place for you. The Intramurals Activity Building (aka the IMA) is the biggest on-campus gym at UW. It has everything from a massive weights room to an indoor heated pool. There are courts and fields for pretty much every sport and an indoor track, but my favorite part about the IMA has to be the saunas that are located in both the male and female locker rooms.

5. The views

There is not a single spot on campus that doesn't have a spectacular view. The quad blesses us with cherry blossoms in the spring that are truly a sight to see. If you're at Rainier Vista on a clear day, you'll be able to see Mount Rainier with little to no obstructions (UW has actually paid to make sure no buildings are built to block that view). Going closer to south campus, there is a gorgeous view of Union Bay and Lake Washington. And to top it off, most buildings on west campus get a clear and absolutely gorgeous view of the Space Needle and Seattle skyline.

The best part is that there are stillhundreds of other aspects and qualities to UW that are just as great. If you aren't a UW student now, reading this article probably made you wish you were.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
