A USC Senior Year Bucket List

An (incomplete) guide to various L.A. things you might have missed during your first three years at the best school on earth.

A USC Senior Year Bucket List

As this summer progresses and propels me ever closer to senior year, I, as a displaced Southerner in Southern California, still feel that there is so much more of Los Angeles to explore. Though I have covered a lot in my three years at USC so far, some very basic L.A.-isms have been overlooked (partially due to reporting assignments taking over my life, partially because I depended on Uber to get around). So, newly equipped with my trusty red Volvo S40 and a bucket list for the ages, here is some of what I plan on doing with my limited free time my senior year.

Climb Up to Griffith Park Observatory

My sophomore year, this iconic overlook of L.A. was even in my reporting district for my print class, yet I still never managed to venture up the hill. Needless to say, this is an easy and vital part of exploring L.A.

Visit LACMA

Closest I've gotten to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is just missing a sorority formal photo op at the streetlamp exhibit due to an overdue assignment. As a huge art nerd, I'll definitely hit this attraction ASAP.

Visit The Broad

Covered it pre-opening because I'm a hardcore modern art junkie, yet never managed to get inside. Are you starting to see a pattern in my L.A. experience?

Venture Into Enemy Territory (Westwood)

Yeah, I've been to their In-N-Out and gotten Diddy Riese ice cream sandwiches, but let's be real: FUCLA, but Westwood's a pretty cool place to explore.

Go Surfing

Lame, but I'm always asked by friends at home if I've gone surfing since moving to L.A. -- better not disappoint.

Go Roller-Skating Along the Coast

I'm a spaz, so I'd probably spend the whole time trying to stay vertical, but hey, at least I'll look super fun.

Bring My Family to a Gameday!

Mama and Papa Bear have been, but I'll be really gunning for my siblings to step inside the Coliseum this season so I can teach them to Fight On and whatnot.

Go to a Concert at the Shrine

Well, I've heard plenty of concerts from when I lived in Troy Hall sophomore year, but strangely I've never been inside.

Go to a Kings Game at the Staples Center

I hate basketball but ironically have been to multiple Clippers games. What's up with that?? Anyways, I'll be heading to a hockey game this season.

Go to Catalina Island for the Day

USC even has a ferry that goes straight to it!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
