Being an out of state student can be rough, sometimes. People constantly ask you what brought you all the way to whatever university you attend. They ask a million questions about where you are from and where your town is located. Usually, it is hard to explain to school friends or professors what brought you so far from your hometown. They always have their cons to going out of state, but you have your pro.. Here are a few of both.
Tuition.
“How can you possibly afford to come here out of state?" Not all of us are fortunate enough to have wealthy family members to put us through and use scholarship money or work to pay for school. Sometimes, it's just necessary to go to a far away school no matter what the reason is or how you get the money.
New experiences.
Going to a different state for school made me realize just how different things are outside of my hometown. I have gotten to go to so many beautiful and interesting places and experience really cool events and restaurants I would never know existed.
New friends.
Most of us need a break from the friends we have had since kindergarten. Going out of state allows us to break away from those friends and meet a new group of people. We also just get to find people who are very different in their ways than those we have grown up with.
We miss the old friends.
Finding new people to hang out with makes us miss the old ones at times. They just don't understand the inside jokes or the “remember that one time…" references.
Distance from family.
Same problems go for family. We get far enough away that we have a breather from our families and all the annoying things they do. But this helps us find an appreciation for them and miss them, at times.
