Nature has its eloquent way of letting us know it’s finally spring: the snow melts, the weather gets warmer, the birds start chirping, the grass regains its color, the sun shines longer, and the flowers start to bloom. Spring is nature’s metaphor for reminding us that life continues, no matter how harsh of winter. What a beautiful one to say the least!
Humans have their own unique way of letting other humans know it’s finally
spring, something I realized in the contrast between my dark maroon cardigan and others' bright, colorful outfits. With
any change, such as a seasonal one, comes something new.
So, without further ado, let's spring to these "unnatural signs", or rather, our modern ways of articulating "spring is here" with one another:
1. Showing Arms Again
Specifically, the mighty return of the bro-tank.
Spring's warm whether allows the gun show to come back to town (whether we want it to or not).
2. Showing (Pale) Legs Again
After an entire winter of being caged in pants, our legs haven't seen the sun in a while. (If you're like me, then your legs have even developed the capacity to glow in the dark).
3. Shaving Season
Because we are showing off our pasty legs, we women have to shave again. (Let's be honest: no shave November continued through December and January).
4. Pastel Colors
Lavender, mint, blush, and robin's egg blue are a few of the popular colors this spring.
5. Socks and Sandals
Fur boots have been traded in for this popular duo.
6. Rolling up Jeans
Because you haven't had time to go shopping yet for spring clothes and capris.
7. Tax Return Funded Outfits
Tax returns come during spring, which means a little extra spending money to do with as you please, and as subtly as you would like.
8. Ditching the Jackets
I cannot explain this phenomenon.
9. Shorter Haircuts
Another change you can make is to chop off your hair. If you've been thinking about it, now is the time! The shorter length will be cooler for summer. (If you don't like it, you have all summer to grow it out so it will be long again for school in the fall).
10. Ice Coffee Instead of Hot Coffee
Even our beverage choices change. Instead of a hot cup of coffee to warm us up, we need iced coffee as a refresher.
11. Working on Beach Bodies
Spring is like the finals week before summer.
But remember,
Spring presents itself in natural and unnatural ways. If we are to accept the change spring brings, we must accept something unnatural, such as bro-tanks, as well as we would accept something natural: the way a beautiful day reminds you of someone else.
