On Tuesday, June 14th, the United State of Women Summit was held in Washington, D.C. Hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama, this summit was an international gathering of pure woman power. CEOs of some of the top companies in the world were in attendance among some of the greatest world leaders. Watch the film if you haven't and then let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

The main topics of the summit covered six areas: Economic Empowerment, Health & Wellness, Educational Opportunity, Violence Against Women, Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Leadership & Civic Engagement. Whether it was equal pay, health coverage, or furthering women’s roles in corporations, the media and public sector - there was somebody talking about it.

Vice President Joe Biden’s speech was incredibly moving and told the world that "It’s On Us" to stop campus rape, domestic violence and violence against women. He reiterated the fact that any rape survivor is not at fault. He stated, “We need to throw out the mindset that excuses abuse or sexual assault by saying ‘boys will be boys.’” I wish this could be screamed at the mountaintops so everyone can understand that boys can’t just be boys. He continued to say that the mindset around rape culture needs to be stopped and it is up to us to stop it.

Other people in attendance included Miki Agrawal, the CEO of THINX, a period underwear company that can replace up to two tampons’ worth of blood. Pretty insane. The company had its advertisements pulled from NYC subways for being “too provocative”.’ Which is interesting in itself - why are there advertisements for plastic surgery with a woman's breasts hanging out of her shirt, but the agency running the MTA didn’t think that the word “period” was okay for subways? Very interesting.

Amani Al-Khatahtbeh, a 23-year-old woman who began muslimgirl.net was also in attendance. Not afraid to speak her mind, this girl knows the core definition of woman power. Whether she’s smashing trolls on Twitter or getting all up in Trump’s racism and xenophobia, she's breaking boundaries every day she breathes. Her Twitter bio claims “@nytimes calls me a media Titan.” And she's earned that title. She spoke on a panel with Billie Jean King and Shonda Rhimes about how female leadership is important in every field (it’s true). This girl is already breaking barriers and I can’t wait to see what else is up her sleeve.

Matt McGorry, also known as Bennett from Orange is the New Black wasn't afraid to shout that he too is a feminist. He spoke about incarcerated youth’s lives and brought a new perspective to what it means to be support all those in difficult situations. He even spoke about how male students need to create a better culture around consent and sexual assault. He also supported sexual assault survivors and said that he “believes [them] and stands with [them].”

There's certainly something that all of us can learn from one or more of these speakers. For starters, it's that women are really really powerful. There is nothing standing in our way (okay minus the wage gap and overall thinking of women as object, not humans) to getting exactly what we want. And that's exactly how it should be. If you are still interested in hearing what some of these amazing people have to say (or want to watch Oprah and Michelle Obama be sassy) check out the White House Youtube. You won't be disappointed. Everyone should also take the pledge that rape is on us and everyone should take the pledge to change tomorrow for women everywhere. Being a feminist and supporting women isn’t a bad thing. It helps everyone everywhere.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
