A video of a male passenger being dragged out of a plane that was overbooked went viral on April 9th. The plane was leaving from Chicago to Louisville.
Lets start off with, if the plane was over booked and they needed four seats for employees, why would the plane get sold out anyway? Could the employees needing to go to their destination not take the next flight or handle it through the company instead of dragging their customers into their problem? If no one is willing to give up their seat is forcefully making them the answer to United Airlines problem?
In the video you can hear that the man is saying "I need to go home, I need to go home." He obviously was not willing to just give up the seat. So why did United not move to the next option and ask someone else? Why are the people on the plane not speaking up?
Well in the video you can see the man being unbuckled from his seat and being dragged through the aisles of the airplane almost passed out. Then the man gets up and runs back onto the plane with a bloody mouth. United obviously did not have any workers that were capable of handing this situation with customer care. Instead they were okay with mistreating this man because of their companies benefit to get their workers to go where they needed to be.
As for the people, there could be a lot of reasons why they did not speak up. The fear that if they helped the man they would be dragged off too, or the selfishness of not wanting to take his place. I am sure a great relief was given to them when they were not the ones who did not have to give up their seat. So instead of taking his place when they saw the troubled human, they took out their phones as if that would change or help the man in any way other than humiliation and evidence after the damage had been done.
This man made it very clear he had to be on this fight. Not only that he told the fight attendants he had to be on this flight because he was a doctor who had to see patients the next day. This makes this case even more outrageous because United could have simply asked more people and gave more money to the volunteers. There were many solutions to their problems other than forcfuly making a paying customer get out of their seat.
Instead of reasoning with the man they neglected their customer`s safety, which after that event I would not even want to fly on that plane. If the workers care that little for the customers then why would you get on that plane thinking you wont be treated the same way. Let this be a lesson learn to not just the airlines but to people of America. If you see someone being mistreated, do not let your first instinct be to pull out your phone thinking you are helping in some way. Use those hands to help the person and get them out of situation instead of recording it.
