Some people ask me, "How did you choose your major and why?" This is a question asked frequently, and others even have trouble declaring a major. There is no problem entering college as an undeclared major, but others may say, "What can I do with this major?" Many say education comes with a salary, but that isn't necessarily true, when sometimes it's hard to find jobs, and a bachelor's degree in psychology doesn't always give a satisfactory salary.
A major that was chosen before entering college isn't a guarantee, because many people change their major for reasons, because perhaps that chosen major is too hard or just isn't right for them. That major is determining your career field and, basically, your future.
Now let me talk about why I have chosen to major in Psychology. Psychology was in my thoughts as a major ever since I was in middle school during 7th grade. Helping people and guiding them to less stressful state was a necessity for me. I loved the fact of helping others and resolving problems others may have with each other. I was in a peer-mediation program, solving others' fights and what caused those individuals to have that behavior during that initial action. Then high school approached, and I still was trying to help others and see why that behavior is causing those people to act in that way. For others, find out what you like before and are deeply interested in and see if that falls into your niche. Psychology is the study of mental processes and behavior, but the behavior is caused by so many factors that, almost anything can change one's behavior. If someone is interested in behavior the majors that may fit for others are Public Justice, Psychology, and Anthropology. Psychology makes you think more than you ever have and realize that some people may be mentally sick or just use that behavior to manipulate someone else.
Entering college as a freshman is stressful, especially when choosing a major, making new friends and learning the new difficult material. For me, it was easy because of knowing the major I was interested in and my high school preparing me for college and its obstacles. The major psychology became a part of me and revolves around me as a behavioral expert in the future.
Many people also choose the major but don't know what future career they want. I want to be a clinical psychologist, helping others with mental problems such as schizophrenia, depression and other disorders in order to improve their lives. Improving the community and helping other families to realize what those family members or partners may have and coming to the end of it can't make those any happier. Don't stress over choosing a majorl; just find out what you like and what you can do with that major to expand your knowledge.
