1. First Day of Class (FDOC)

Expectation:

You will wake up super early with a lot of motivation to pick the perfect outfit, do your hair, do full out makeup (even perfecting that contouring), impress your professors with amazing questions, make new friends, and rock your first day.

Reality:

You somehow sleep through your three alarms, stumble out of bed, put on the first shirt you can find, get lost on campus on the way to class and end up walking into lecture late and trying awkwardly to find an empty seat in front of 200 of your new peers.

2. Meeting all of your new roommates/suitemates for the first time

You will be moving into your new home in a really cute outfit and be all charming and cute when you meet your newest neighbors for the first time. You become instant best friends and end up doing everything together for the next four years.

You don't remember the names of any of your suitemates and aren't even sure if you just passed them while walking around campus... because you don't even quite remember what they look like either...

3. Daily routine during college

Expectation:

You wake up super energized every morning, work out for at least an hour, shower and get really cute, sit beside the hottest boys in every class, have engaging conversations in each class, meet new friends and study buddies, and have enough energy to end each night by going out... all while getting those 8 hours of nightly rest.

Reality:

You go to the gym maybe once a week, go to class lectures of about 200 strangers in required classes that are not at all engaging (at least for the first year prereqs), quickly realize that you don't have time management skills to deal with your new overwhelming work load, and are too exhausted to go out... you'd rather squeeze in an afternoon nap between classes.

4. Finding the perfect academic/career path

Expectation:

Reality:

5. Dating in college

Expectation:

Reality:

College may not be what you see on your favorite show or movie growing up. It is full of its ups and downs, its stories of drunken disasters and epic adventures. Enjoy the ride.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
