11 Things That Could Happen Before The University Of Minnesota Cancels Classes

Basically unless a bomb cyclone of sharknadoes attack campus, we still have class.

We've all been there. Casually rolling over in bed to check your email at the moment your alarm goes off just hoping the Univerisity of Minnesota would cancel classes. And, yet again, they didn't. Why? Because unless a bomb cyclone of fire rolls through (or the 40 mph wind and blizzard last week), Minnesotans are just expected to deal with the arctic tundra that is campus eight months out of the year. Here are 11 things more likely to happen than the U of M canceling classes.

1. Prince comes back from the dead and gives a concert at TCF Bank Stadium.

Admittedly, this would be so cool. But, probably not going to happen, just like our snow day.

2. The Wifi on campus actually works well.

You were promised Eduroam would be better, but it's not. It's a long cat or a wide dog. Neither are ideal, or working all of the time...

3. The football team going undefeated.

Nothing against the Gophers, but we've been on the struggle bus the last several years.

4. The University firing President Kaler and elects Goldy.

Honestly, this would benefit everyone, and I'm just not against it. Goldy is my true love.

5. Textbooks cost less than a Starbucks coffee.

Let's be honest, this is never going to happen and neither is our snow day, no matter how hard we wish.

6. You get struck by lightning.

It's only a one in 1,101,000 chance.

7. Minneapolis gets hit by an asteroid strike.

There's only a 74,817,414 chance it will kill an individual, so even less likely than lightning.

8. You get killed by a shark.

Chances of death by a shark are one in 3,748,067

9. You die in a Grand Canyon flash flood.

The odds of this are so low at one in 14,270,000. But canceling classes is even less likely. Remember that time we had an active hostage situation?

10. There's an active hostage situation on campus and half of campus is surrounded by SWAT.

Yes, we really still had class. Apparently, everything is FINE.

11. 14 inches of snow falls in an afternoon.

Yeah, we're really not canceling until none of the cars here have the ability to leave. But at that point, you're already here so you might as well go to class. It's fine that the connector keeps getting stuck going to the St. Paul campus. Just put on your big boots and help push the bus out.

Okay, so the point is that the University of Minnesota is basically never going to cancel classes. But, it's fine, we can just keep slogging through because eventually, spring break will save us from the lack of days off given by government holidays, and just the general lack of breaks. We're strong, we're brave, we're Minnesotan and we certainly are not going to let a little weather stop us from enjoying our classes! Or sleeping through them...

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
