UD Cribs: Bathroom Edition

Young adults come from far and wide to be students at the University of Dayton. The least they deserve are some wonderful bathrooms.

Let's just get right down to it. Bathrooms are important— I don't think there's much argument here. Everyone uses them, and there's nothing worse than a bad bathroom. You know the kind: smelly, filled with people, cramped, messy.

In college, this isn't uncommon. Whether it's the communal bathroom shared between 50 others teenagers on your dorm floor, or the tiny closet-sized bathroom you share with 3 other roommates that is constantly out of toilet paper and always smells weird, I'm here to say that you deserve better.

With over 20 buildings on campus, there's plenty of bathrooms to choose from. After some careful exploratory research, I present you with a list of what I believe to be some of the best bathrooms on UD's campus.

1. St. Joseph Hall, Ground Floor

Perks: This spacious single bathroom on the ground floor of St. Joe's gets very little traffic due to it's lack of proximity to a large number of classrooms.

2. Kennedy Union, Second Floor

Perks: After walking through the door of this second floor restroom, you enter a large dressing room complete with curtained-off corners. If you're looking for a bathroom filled with mirrors and perhaps a few spots to hide, this is the place for you.

3. Roesch Library, Third Floor

Perks: This single bathroom on located on the third floor of Roesch Library is equipped for both men and women. The third floor houses the U.S. Catholic Special Collection, and is only open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It gets very little traffic, and therefore there's a very good chance of finding this bathroom unattended.

4. Marianist, First floor

Perks: This single bathroom located next to the Bookstore is one that you can always count on to be clean. Its convenient location gives you the perfect excuse to stop by the Emporium and pick up something delicious!

5. Alumni Hall, First Floor

Perks: Another restroom that has very little traffic. Whether or not you need to use the facilities, the small waiting room that you find yourself in after entering the bathroom is a great place to pause and collect your thoughts before continuing to your next class.

6. St. Joseph Hall, Fourth Floor

Perks: I found this quaint bathroom at the top of St. Joe's full of lotions and nice-smelling soap. Definitely a plus!

7. Science Center, First Floor

Perks: I found of few of these "Public Rest Rooms" scattered around the Science Center. More single bathrooms for those who are a fan of privacy!

8. Roesch Library, Seventh Floor

Perks: This one is purely for the view. From the second stall of this seventh floor bathroom, you can see a beautiful overhead view of our wonderful campus.

A few notes:

I hope you found this list eye-opening and inspiring. I hope it leads you to great places. Just a few more things:

  • I apologize that this list is primary women's restrooms. Given my nature, that's all I was able to explore. However, I encourage male students of UD to go out and find those bathrooms that speak to them.
  • Some of the bathrooms featured were accessible restrooms. I ask you to not use these unless an emergency arises, as they should be available for those who need them.
  • My search for bathrooms allowed me to venture to parts of campus I had never before seen. Our campus is spacious. I recommended to students everywhere, during a free afternoon or an awkward gap between classes, go, get lost in the Science Center or explore the law building, Keller Hall. There's a lot to see if you look for it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
