10 Reasons UCLA Is Basically Hogwarts In Disguise

Let's face it--you have passed the auspicious age of eleven, the year the chosen ones (slight pun intended) receive the letter that unlocks a new world of opportunities and adventures. This letter could be none other than the Hogwarts acceptance letter.

If you haven't received your Hogwarts acceptance letter and you are currently still processing the devastating information that you are an average Muggle, fear not. You have the opportunity, if you so desire, to apply for a different sort of acceptance letter: college.

Here are ten reasons why UCLA can be your Hogwarts in Disguise:

1. It's got name recognition

Wherever you go, most people have heard about UCLA--I mean, let's face it, UCLA is the #12 university in the world. Obviously people from other countries know about Hogwarts, too (ie Durmstrang and Beaubatons).

2. It has a prime potions department

If you can't brew potions with Professor Snape (if people actually want to do that...I would be ridiculously intimidated), then you can get some experience at UCLA.

3. The Great Hall

UCLA Dining is so immensely wonderful that it is equivalent to the Hogwarts Great Hall that conjures food so you never run out kthxbye.

4. The campus is huge

Did you ever notice how in Harry Potter how HUGE the Hogwarts grounds stretch? #Tbt to that one time they were able to store dragons on the grounds without anyone finding out...well besides Hagrid, Harry and Madame Maxime. Like Hogwarts, UCLA holds many secrets and far off places--ie the Botanical Gardens that take 10 million years to reach.

5. The buildings are majestic

Two words: Royce Hall.

6. There's some friendly competition on campus

Just like Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw compete and talk about each other, UCLA's north and south campuses rival. The north part of campus, known for the humanities, is vastly different from the south part of campus, known for math and science. Nevertheless, just as all of the houses make one Hogwarts, so do the different parts of campuses at UCLA.

7. Lots of secrets

UCLA has tunnels--now you know, first years.

8. Diversity

Just as Hogwarts student come from different backgrounds and possess different talents and abilities, so do UCLA students.

9. A great village just outside of the school

Hogsmeade Village is to Hogwarts what Westwood Village is to UCLA.

10. A rockin' Quidditch team

Clearly the most important on this list. Upset because you will never play Quidditch? Think again--UCLA has the number 3 Quidditch team. In fact, the Quidditch team made the UCLA Bruin Bucket List.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
