College is a milestone in life that is filled with many different types of experiences. Music can not only make or break a tailgate, but it can also represent the different times you’ve had so far in Madison. It helps make our moments and points in the semester absolutely unforgettable. Here are 10 types of songs that you’re Bound 2 hear at some point during your time in Madison. See what I did there?
The Walk to ClassYou could argue that there are no limits when it comes to this category. However, if I had to pinpoint something, I would say that you’re probably listening to relatively easy going music that you’ve either very recently discovered or you’ve been listening to for a very long time. It’s the type of song that you know every word to, or it’s something you just found online and you really like the lyrics/rhythm. In essence, you’re either listening to a classic or you’re trying to convert a newbie into a classic.
Personal Examples: "Ribs" by Lorde // "I Wanna Go" by Summer Heat
The Walk Home from Class on a Friday (or whenever the weekend starts)
This is the kind of song that makes you feel happy or excited. It could by your favorite rap anthem, a song that reminds you of a vacation with friends, or something that just gets you revved up for your weekend plans. Don’t turn it up too loud, though. You could break your headphones — or your ears.
Personal Examples: "Good Life" by Kanye West// "You & Me" by Disclosure (Flume remix)
The Pregame
The night is just getting started and you’re starting to
feel it. Nothing can stop you right now, so you’re going to want to sing a lot
or dance a lot,or both. It could be a Billboard Top 100, or it could be
something with a fast beat and no words. Either way, you really like this song.
Personal Examples: "Ignition Remix" by R. Kelly// "Five Hours" by Deorro
The Gameday Tailgate
IT’S GAME DAAYYYYYYY! Your song needs to reflect that type
of energy. Chances are you’re playing it very loudly; and if it’s one of the
first games of the year, you’re playing it outside. So it’s safe to say that
virtually everyone within a mile radius will hear at least a little bit of what
you’re playing. Everyone knows the words and it gets everyone going. Go, Badge.
Personal Examples: "We Dem Boyz" by Wiz Khalifa// "Come On Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners
The Library Session
It’s cram time. You have an exam tomorrow. You have to read
a 30-page article. Your research paper is due tomorrow. When you’re listening
to your library playlist, chances are you’re trying to tune the world out and focus on
the task at hand. I'm sure what music ends up on this list will vary from person to person. But for a lot of people, I’m willing to bet longer, more calming songs with minimal lyrics really help them
concentrate. Maybe it’s even classical music like Beethoven.
Personal Examples: anything by The Album Leaf // "To Build a Home" by The Cinematic Orchestra
Music is an absolutely amazing thing. One song can take you back to a favorite memory or moment in time. Want to recreate one of your favorite house parties or spice up a walk to class? The right song can help with that.
