Type A

noun

a personality type characterized by ambition, high energy, and competitiveness, and thought to be susceptible to stress and heart disease.

“Perfectionists”, “High Maintenance”, people call those who are Type A a lot of names. It’s just the way we function: we’re organized, dedicated, motivated, and we Get. Stuff. Done. If you want to understand us, know that these are a couple of things we know to be true...

_______________________________________________________________________________

The term “whenever” makes you violently ill.

You don’t understand how to NOT have a plan.

You wonder how people can function when their things are disorganized.

When they tell you “I know where everything is!” You don’t know whether to facepalm, cringe, or dramatically roll your eyes first.

Color coding keeps you sane.

Alphabetizing is therapeutic.

People have accused you of being ‘uptight’ or ‘inflexible’, but you know that they are wrong… (Probably.)

You’ve spent your whole life trying to find the “flow” in the phrase “go with the flow”.

You can’t stand anything being messy.

Or disorganized.

Your entire life has a system.

Exhibit A: Your closet is organized by garment type.

Then within those categories by color.

You outfit plan using the weather forecast as a guide.

Which is why you never look like you’ve thrown your outfit together last minute.

Hairspray is your best friend because flyaways are the enemy.

Your consider yourself to be a professional in time management.

Because your day is scheduled I’m talking nearly every minute of every day.

And if you stray from that schedule, you may just go into a panic.

Being LATE is something you just don’t do.

You live by the Girl Scout motto: “Be prepared.”

Even vacations have a schedule: a glorious itinerary.

How else are you supposed to take Instagram-worthy vacation photos?

How else are you supposed to see and do everything?

Lists keep you sane.

You find giddy, school-girl-like joy when you check off things on a list.

When you find out you can also color code your e-mail, it’s a happy day for you indeed.

You sometimes lose sleep because you can’t get your ‘to-do’ list out of your head.

You live for decluttering.

You wouldn’t function anyway else.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
