The President's Twitter Can Lead To A Possible Government Shutdown

The most powerful man in the world needs to put down the phone before all of our lives are affected.

On January 20, 2017, Donald Trump took the official oath to be the 45th President of the United States of America.

Also since that day, the world has got to experience the joy of the president's constant tweeting. What I don't think that the president fully knows is that his tweets are on the verge of causing a government shutdown.

A government shutdown is when the president and Congress fail to pass a spending budget. This does not mean that the government fully shuts down, it is just a process that the Executive branch must execute.

But there are certain things that will happen if there is a government shutdown: (1) over 500,000 public workers will be sent home, (2) if you live in Washington DC, your trash will not be picked up, (3) federal zoos, museums, landmarks, and parks will be shut down, (4) nobody will be getting a passport because applications will not be processed, and (5) the economy will likely suffer a great deal.

But don't worry, not every federal agency will shut down, the military continues to run and the post office continues to function. One thing that most people do not know will happen during a government shutdown is that the politicians causing the shutdown will still continue to get paid.

A government shutdown is a very likely outcome of the mess that DC is in right now. If a spending budget does not get approved by Christmas, then a government shutdown is in the very near future. The last time there was a government shutdown was in 2013, and lasted 16 days. And I predict that if there is to be a government shutdown in December it could last more than 16 days.

The tension between the Republicans and the Democrats continues to grow as Trump's tweets keep rolling in. Trump over the past week has tweeted insults towards North Korea, major Democratic leaders, the NFL, and to major American news outlets.

Yes, the Republicans control both the House and the Senate, but they are going to need some Democrats on their side to pass the spending budget. Also, Trump needs to stop rejecting all spending ideas that do not include the building of his obnoxious wall.

We should all be prepared for the government shutdown that is extremely likely to happen. Unless, there is a miracle in DC that allows for the passing of some sort of spending budget.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
