As I write this on National Sibling’s Day, I can’t help but feel blessed to have the family that I do. Not only do I have a sister, but I have three incredible step-siblings who I’ve grown up with. But for this article I’m mainly going to focus on my identical twin sister – namely, the seven tell-tale signs that you’re a twin.
1. “Are you two twins?”
![]()
You can count on this question being asked nearly every time you go out with your twin in public.
2. Even some of your own family members can’t tell you apart.
![]()
This is probably the most frustrating thing about being a twin. While I understand that it’s hard for people to make distinctions between identical twins, I think I should be able to expect people who have known us for at least ten years to know which twin is which.
3. You get to share a birthday with someone.
![]()
While this might not sound so fun, it’s actually great if you celebrate correctly. Birthday parties tend to be huge, and everyone seems to kind of love celebrating two people they love instead of just one!
4. You’re apparently the same person as your sibling!
![]()
This is 100 percenr not true, but people love to think that. Even if your sibling does or says something, the recount of that story will be “the twins” did and said this.
5. “Do you guys have twin telepathy?”
![]()
No. The answer is no. I’m convinced twin telepathy isn’t even a thing and that any set of twins claiming they
are telepathic can really only say so because they know each other so well that it just
feels like they can communicate through their brains.
6. People really like to point out when you’re wearing clothing that’s even remotely similar.
![]()
My mom matched my sister and I so much as children that the two of us don't really want to match ever again. So when we’re preparing to go out for the night and realize that we’ve each picked out similar-looking outfits, we know the torment that will follow if we both wear them. Because of this we avoid wearing the same outfits at all costs.
7. 7. You have a built-in best friend for life.![]()
Cheesy, but so true. I couldn’t imagine life without my twin because it would be so much duller. I’m so thankful to have someone to share so many major life moments with.
