It’s ten o’clock in the morning. The sun is shining through your dorm window, the birds are chirping cheerfully outside, and the smell of Clorox wipes fill the air. It’s move out day. For some, it’s a dreaded day where one is forced to pack up all of his or her belongings and leave his/her new home and new friends for almost four months. For others, it’s a celebrated day, symbolizing the end of all-nighters, cramming for exams, dining hall food, and using shower shoes. Packing up all your belongings and shoving them into the family van can be a lengthy and even strenuous experience. Here are twenty thoughts one has while packing and moving out of his/her college dorm:
1. There’s that sweater I’ve been looking for!
More than likely, though, I won’t be needing this in 75-degree weather.
2. Since when has this dress been here ...
I guess I didn’t bring it home over spring break.
3. Wow, I have a lot of clothes.
23 T-shirts is a bit excessive in my opinion.
4. I’m going to break my back trying to lift this box.
I think there are actual rocks in this.
5. Okay, 10 minutes of packing deserves a break.
*Sits on phone for 20 minutes.*
6. (Taking pictures off the wall.) Wow, I haven’t talked to this person since last summer.
As a matter of fact, I haven’t talked to most of these people in months.
7. Oops, I peeled some wallpaper off.
Better get some white-out.
8. Oh crap, I did it again.
Better get more whiteout.
9. I can’t tell if this is garbage or not.
Better keep it just in case.
10. I don’t remember buying this.
Sorry to whomever I accidentally stole these scissors from.
11. Crap! I ran out of boxes.
I’ll make it fit.
12. I’ve never seen so much dust in my life.
*Sneezes four times in a row.*
13. *Phone rings.* “Yeah, mom, I’m done packing.”
“Can’t wait! See you in an hour.”
14. There’s no way this is all fitting in my trunk.
Looks like I’m getting strapped to the roof.
15. *Finishes packing. Gets a call from mom.*
“Great! I’ll head downstairs now!”
16. Alright, time to lug these boxes up and down seven flights of stairs.
This will be my workout for the rest of the year.
17. *Twenty-five later.* Miraculously, all my stuff fit in the car.
No getting strapped to the roof this time, mom.
18. Wow, I might miss this broom closet of a dorm room.
I won’t, however, miss the shower shoes.
19. This will be my last time ever in here.
Unless, of course, I make friends with whatever freshman is graced with my old room.
20. Whatever ... Next year is gonna be more epic anyways!
I’m only moving all of this stuff to do it all again in three and a half months.
