Ah, spring break. That wonderful week of bliss that marks the final stretch of the school year. For many, it is the last hurrah before starting a summer internship or a new career post-graduation. Unfortunately for spring break, it gets a pretty bad rep for being the most reckless of all college breaks. Spring breakers are known for their high intake of alcohol and "getting turnt" for a week, then coming back to school. Question for those of you who do the "getting turnt:" Do you actually remember your spring break? I do. Why? Because no, I did not "get turnt" over spring break.
I did not drink over spring break. Why? Partially because I'm underage, as are all my friends, and partially because I wanted to remember the week of bliss before the last few weeks of school. I have known my whole life that it is possible to have fun without alcohol being involved, and this spring break only proved what I'd already known.
Oddly enough, I was offered alcohol. Actually, the exact phrase was "I can get you guys whatever you want," which was politely declined. I had no desire to drink over my long-awaited break, and I had every desire to remember and be fully alert during every second of it.
Instead of "getting turnt," I slept. I went to Six Flags and rode roller coasters to my heart's desire. I laid on the beach. I watched movies. I went to a ton of great restaurants. I sang at the top of my lungs while spending about twenty wonderful hours in the car with my friends. Most importantly, I remember all the things that happened on our trip.
I remember running out to the ocean at 11:30 at night because we wanted fresh air. I remember watching one of my closest friends ride X2 at Six Flags for the first time. I remember walking around a harbor and laughing at all the punny boat names. These are all memories that I am able to cherish because they weren't muddled by my college-aged desire to "get turnt."
To those of you who did "get turnt" over spring break: I hope you had fun. I hope you had as wonderful a time as I did, and I hope that you have plenty of pictures and videos to commemorate whatever endeavors your week of vacation included.
As I finish my last spring break, I am left to look back on every spring break adventure I've had. From attempting to snowboard for the first time to making a Cold Stone pit stop during a long drive, I am eternally grateful that I didn't spend any spring break "getting turnt." Why? Because now I get to remember all of them.
