TSA Officers, Am I Right?

I have had lots of ridiculous experiences at the airport, so I’ve compiled some of my favorite and funniest TSA officer stories here!

A woman gets flagged down during security for having a large jar of Nutella in her carry-on luggage. I watch as she attempts to flirt her way out of the situation. The TSA officer shakes his head regretfully as he informs her that she must throw away the Nutella since it isn’t allowed on the plane. She begins to walk away, angry her flirting did not yield concrete results. As she’s leaving, the TSA officer calls out behind her, “So, do you come here often?” The woman sarcastically says, “I live here,” then turns on her heel and storms off.

Scene: I'm at the airport wearing my Hogwarts shirt, going through security on the way to China.
TSA officer: Is the train picking you up from Beijing?
Me: (confused) I was going to take a taxi, actually...
TSA officer: (laughing at me) You're not taking the train to Hogwarts, then?
Me: OHHHH! Ha.
TSA officer: That took a while, huh?

The following interactions all happened during the same visit to the airport!

Scene 1

The TSA officer looking at my ID: Hey, it's almost time!

Me: (panicking and thinking he's talking about my flight) Oh really?

Him: Yeah, just over a year now!

Me: Haha, yeah...?

I had no idea what he was referring to and finally realized he was talking about turning 21.

Scene 2

The TSA officer at the luggage scanner: I've been hungry for 54 years now! I get hungry while eating dinner.

Me, silently: Same, though.

Scene 3

The TSA officer behind the body scanner: Another AXO! AXO is my favorite sorority!

Me: Me too!

Him: Ha ha. My sister was an AXO, I guess we're biased. Where at?

Me: MIT!

Him: Oh wow.

The TSA officer checking inside my luggage because of course it got flagged: There's something in here that I need to check, but I think it's food.

Me: It's probably chocolate.

Him: (after opening my suitcase and finding that 60% of it is in fact full of chocolate) Oh, wow…these look yummy!!

I thought about offering him one but figured it might seem like a bribe, so I decided against it.

We'll find out soon what the next episode is in my never-ending airport saga!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
