Before coming back to school this summer my sister gave me some makeup tips and advice. After only being in school for a few weeks I came across an ad for ipsy and for some reason it caught my attention and did some research. I thought it was a really neat idea that for $10 you could try different brands of makeup, skin care or hair care products. Although the products aren't always full size, for $10 you get a small bag and five different products.
Before deciding to invest $10, I wanted to make sure it would be a wise investment, so I sent my sister a text message. Being a cosmetology student, who loves makeup, I asked her if she thought it would be worth it for me to try. When she gave me the okay, I signed myself up and was put on a short wait-list because I started after the first of the month.
After a few days I was taken off the wait-list and given a preview of what would be in my first bag. You can also see all of the products that other people may have gotten based on their profiles. ipsy has you take a quick little survey about you skin type, hair and eye color; you then get products based on your information. So they try to personalize your bag to you.
Although I am yet to receive my first bag, I am very excited. This gives me an opportunity to try different brands and products I would never be willing to pay full price for. When I find a product that I like, I may be willing to actually go out and pay full price. Compared to the amount of money I spend on other products, such as my foundation that costs $14, the cost for ipsy really isn't too bad. This probably works out pretty well for my sister too because whatever I decide I don't like she will probably get. We are pretty similar, especially with our hair and eye color that she would be able to use anything I dislike.
If you are anything like me, this is a pretty good investment and I never completely do something without doing the research. Even if it is something simple like a book off of Amazon, I read all the reviews and check other prices to make sure that I am getting the best thing for the best price.
So if you're an amateur makeup user like me who is looking to try new products without paying full price, maybe this is something you would be interested in. The best part is that if you decide you don't like it you can cancel at any time. You never know who something will work out unless you try!
