Last month, Apple announced the newest versions of OS (mac) and iOS which were released on public beta for those willing to test them out ahead of their official releases.
As a huge fan of technology and Apple, I decided to join the public beta program and test out both ahead of their official release dates. However, this review is only about the iOS 10 because it is Apple’s biggest release to date.
The first thing I will briefly discuss is what you need to know about joining a public beta program. Nothing is perfect just yet, and you might be the only one in your circle of friends enjoying it.
Not all of your apps will be fined-tuned to the iOS 10, but you can always leave if you are not happy.
With that said, let’s jump straight to iMessage. The array of ways to send a message is perfect, you can even send songs from your music library.
There is even a built-in App Store feature for iMessage, as well as the option to search the web for photos to send. And yes, there is invisible text, crazy screen effects, and sending heart beats.
However, it can get a little bit confusing. I had to really try and figure it out for myself before I got the hang of it. Other than that, I really enjoy the new way to text.
Next, I will be the bearer of good news. With few exceptions, all those apps that are automatically on your device that hold no real use to you can now be deleted.
No, this is not a drill. They are now apps made by Apple that can be downloaded in the app store.
So, let’s say that you bought a new Apple Watch. Instead of the Watch app taking up space that you never used until you bought the watch, you can download the app form the app store in the event that you buy the watch.
Now, let’s get into another new favorite of mine: Bedtime. Bedtime is a new addition to the Clock app that is personally a favorite.
Basically, tell it what time you want to go to bed, how many hours of sleep you want and it tells you what time you need to be in bed. Best of all, the bed-time is always adjustable and your sleep is tracked and documented in the Health app.
Now, a few things. Maybe this is just me using my phone too much, but right now my phone does experience some technical difficulties.
I have experienced a few app crashes that may be a thing of the past by the time iOS 10 officially comes out. Make sure that everything is backed up to iTunes before you join the public beta.
Overall, the iOS 10 is great software now in public beta. I have a feeling it will be a lot better when it is released in the fall.
