For those of you who don't know what a Rho Gamma is, they are called different things at different campuses but are essentially recruitment guides during sorority recruitment. These girls de-affiliate from their chapter for weeks, or months, to help the girls going through recruitment make an unbiased decision. For those sorority girls going through a summer without getting to throw what they know, and hanging around campus with their sisters, "Bridesmaids" perfectly describes the struggles Rho Gammas go through.
For starters, you feel like you are missing out on all the things your sisters are up to all summer. At first you were so excited to take a little break from your sisters, but you're already starting to miss them.
You also can't wear 90 percent of your clothes because they have your sorority name all over them. You are starting to regret buying every shirt your sorority has ever made since you are now in college, broke, and without clothes.
But as it gets closer to recruitment, you realize how many girls you know who are going through recruitment. This excites you, but at the same time after weeks of keeping your chapter identity a secret, you hope no one outs you before bid day.
You have to play it cool when you pass your little on campus when all you really want to do is jump in her arms and hug it out for a few minutes.
During recruitment week you have to keep your composure when a girl talks about how much she hates your chapter.
But you also have to be un-biased when girls like your chapter (even though you know the girl has great taste).
Because in the end, you know your job is to help these girls find their home no matter where it is.
Plus, bid day is right around the corner and you can't wait to be reunited with your sisters and have your own coming home.
To put it simply, there is no better part of recruitment than being a Rho Gamma. You became closer with girls in other chapters, helped new members find their home, have a new appreciation for your sisters, and you wouldn't trade any of it for the world.
