Does it live up to its image?

From the outside looking in the life of college parting is nothing but a blur. All you know is what you have seen on TV and from the butt end of jokes you’ve heard from your friends’ older brother.

You’re aware of roofies, and that ipecac is something to say away from .. but what makes a closet sized room stuffed with 200 people and beer flying around really that appealing. If people just like wearing it, why not put it on in the morning as a cologne and call it a day.

As you enter college and immerse yourself into that life you suddenly see it for what it is. Project X isn’t a real thing nor does anything come close to that. Lets break this down on a real, bottom line level. People go to parties for the free, hopefully unlimited, alcohol, and an escape.

After your five classes, two essays, three finals, and all those work hours you deliberately watched the clock for, you need a break. Even if it’s that two hour gap to feel a little more happy and just dance around with your friends in an over crowed room. The significance of this is that it has the power to get people through the week.

While people not in the college scene may view this differently, which is understandable, the student knows it is vital.

Although we all laugh at the “work hard, play harder” slogan it does hold some validity.

If you are able to accomplish what needs to be done during the week and be successful then you deserve that time for yourself. The hole you dig yourself in on a daily basis can only go so deep before you realize that your childhood goal of reaching china is not attainable.

As you transition throughout your college years you will go through the different phases of “partying” as well, and yes there is such a thing.

When you first enter the college world your only thought is what frat isn’t suspended and is hosting the party this week. With this your knowledge of beer begins to develop and you grow a sense of which fraternity will provide Bud Light, while others remain notorious for Kirkland or Natural Light... and if you see these you know to run.

Eventually this scene becomes a thing of the past and you no longer are interested in piling 8 people into a convertible to arrive at some random house and just have other people bumping into you.

You’re ready to leave that scene, and move up to the big leagues.

Sooner or later you’ll have that first experience of tripping onto the party bus to Miami and see what that hardcore parting is about. This night you will lean that Miami is another world, and sometimes not one you want to venture into.

So you find the bars and the nicer clubs and all of a sudden you see what the older students were talking about. There is a way to go out and not have some frat boy stand on the roof and spray bottles over the crowd, causing you to swim in some unidentifiable fluid.

You learn about putting your card on tab, and the proper way to order a drink, and what is not acceptable depending on the venue.

You are able to escape to your place of choosing and be truly worry free for a short period of time before descending back into the real world.

If you can handle the game, keep playing.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
