Here's the setting; you're moving into your first apartment/house and you are ready to start being an independent individual who makes their own decisions. Great! It all seems like unicorns and cotton candy, but in reality there is a lot more to this thing called "adulting" than what meets the eye.
On the surface it looks like staying up however late you want, eating whatever you want, leaving whenever you want, and basically doing whatever you want.
And yes, it is this. But it is so much more.
There are numerous things that are very hard, and quite frankly, very annoying about being an adult and adulting. You don't recognize and think about this kind of stuff because it is not the glitz and glamour that you perceive it to be.
Just to name a few annoying adulting things that I have realized I have to do:
1. Grocery Shopping
It's all fun and games until you realize you have to do this dreaded task. It sounds like a good time until you spend $100+ on minimal items and don't feel like you actually got anything.
2. Paying Rent
Another thing that you think "Oh, this is fine, I'm fine." But in reality, you're not fine and you don't want to spend the money to have a roof over your head. I can always sleep in my car...right?
3. Paying Bills
So what you're telling me...is I have to pay for my house AND I also have to pay for all this extra stuff like water, electricity, and wifi? Yeah I get it this stuff is costly but why can't it all be on one bill in one place just for the sake of our well-being.
4. Household Chores
Taking out the trash...washing dishes...cleaning you bathroom...you name it. The horrific tasks you only helped your mom with sometimes just became your weekly busy work.
5. Cooking For Yourself...ALL The Time
This is why meal prepping has been a major part of my life recently. Who wants to spend 30 minutes making lunch and over an hour making dinner? Not I. It's still pretty annoying to have to actually cook the things, and try to at least eat something with some nutritional value.
But...at the end of the day, we are all making it. Well, at least some of us. This adulting thing is definitely a lot harder than most of us anticipated. With more experience and time we should get better at it.
At least I hope.
