I figured nobody would actually come out and say it, so here I am ripping off the Band-Aid once and for all. The truth is, girls who go out of their way to be mean to others are insecure about themselves; it’s that simple. Don’t get me wrong, everybody has insecurities, but the mean girls are the ones who will let their insecurities take over their character.

Ever since elementary school, I’ve dealt with mean girls. I never would’ve thought that their attitudes were caused by their own personal issues, as their unhappiness was always blamed on me. I was constantly battling with myself, worrying about what I did wrong, why they hated me, and what I needed to do to make them happy again. I always put these girls on a pedestal, as if they were better than me, or it was my job to make them happy. It wasn’t until recently that I came to the realization that young women who put down, harass, and/or bully other females only have a fight to pick with themselves. I will never understand why a girl, who has never gone out of her way to get to know me, has had so many negative things to say about me (and not even to my face). I’ve learned that by continuing to be myself I become too strong to be brought down. So, to the girls who continue to put up with the mean girls, don’t. Realize that mean people don’t grow out of their insecurities and that being yourself, being kind, and rising above the negativity will always lead you down the right path.

If anything, I have these girls to thank for giving me the opportunity to see myself from a different perspective and realize that I don’t need to change who I am to make someone else happy. I hope that someday these young women find the courage to accept their insecurities and learn that tearing other girls apart in hopes of feeling secure with themselves will no longer serve a purpose in their life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
