In the words of Winnie the Pooh, "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."
While it may seem silly to be quoting a children's cartoon, Winnie had it right in this lovely little quote about goodbyes. Saying goodbye is part of everyday life and something that is almost automatic at certain levels, but it is really a huge deal. Goodbyes are so important.
Goodbyes are something that happen every single day, but really are not talked about that much. Goodbyes happen on so many levels. It can be a good bye for a couple hours, a couple of days, a couple of week or a couple of years.
Some say goodbye before leaving for work, while others send their loved one's off to war. Whatever goodbye it is, it is never easy. Yet we as humans say it on a daily basis - making us pretty strong I think. Because no matter how show the time may be, we never know what is going to happen in the world. Cherish every moment you have with those you love, especially whenever you part.
Think about all the goodbyes you had said in your life time? How many people you have missed. Now think about how blessed that makes you.
Freshman year I remember going back to school in after Winter break and while I was so excited to return, I was also so sad to leave my family. And it made me realize how lucky I was to have a family that made it so hard to leave.
Whether it is your family or your friends (you are closer to you than your family) cherish those people and let them know!
Many people dread goodbyes and avoid them by pushing people away to make saying goodbye easier. Some people pick arguments to make it easy when they leave, but all these will not make it easier on you or the people you love. Instead tell them how much you care for them and cherish the time you have together.
Goodbyes are so important so do not shy away. Nobody likes goodbye, but they are so so important. Sometimes you do not realize how important someone may be until it is time to say goodbye, so do not wait. Show your family and friends how much you love them. Show them how much they mean to you, and make sure when you say goodbye you really let them know how much you will miss them.
Because there is a reason saying hello only takes a minute, but goodbyes seem to last forever.
