What's Really Happening In The Trump Vs. Comey Showdown

If you have been on the internet or turned on a TV in the past few weeks then you have heard about Former FBI director, James Comey. Comey was fired on May 9 by President Trump, and now, over a month later, the saga continues.

Comey was leading the investigation of Russia’s alleged involvement in the presidential election when he was abruptly fired. Ever since then the story has taken many twists and turns and new details have emerged almost every day.

During the past month, many details have come to the surface about this investigation. For instance, two sources close to Comey have come forward saying that Trump asked him to close down the FBI investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

President Trump claims that he fired Comey because his agents had lost confidence in the former FBI director, but Comey has openly disagreed with that accusation.

This week Comey gave a testimony over his side of this developing story. While Comey did not make any major disclosures about any links between Trump or his alleged Russian ties, he did testify about his termination.

Comey has stated that President Trump “chose to defame me” by saying the FBI was “poorly led.”

I’ve done a lot of reading up on this subject, and I am still baffled. I have yet to determine why Comey was actually fired, and I’m sure I might never know for certain. Was the FBI actually under poor management? Maybe. I also find it somewhat suspicious that President Trump abruptly fired the man leading an investigation involving his alleged ties to Russia.

Was there an obstruction of justice? I’m not sure, and apparently, Comey isn’t either. When asked whether or not he thought Trump was trying to cover something up he responded with an "I don’t know," which is the answer most people give when asked their opinion of the subject.

Hopefully one day we will find out the true answer to this important question. Currently, former FBI director, Bob Mueller, has taken over the Russian investigation. Did the Russians meddle with our 2016 election? Do some of Trump’s campaign associates have Russian Ties? The questions just keep coming, but the answers are few and far between.

Since all of this has happened there have been mean tweets at 2 a.m. and many news stories about this, and it does not look like any of this will end soon. I’m sure that we are in for many more breaking news stories about this subject.

This is arguably more interesting that any reality show on air right now, but the sad part is that this our government. While we wait for all of this to blow over or maybe even end, if we’re lucky, let’s try to focus on something positive. Because of this event, we were blessed by the creation of “covfefe.”

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
