It’s almost time. The United States of America is only days away from choosing one of two paths: it will either go to the left and make history by electing the first woman president, or it will go right and allow “grab them by the pussy” Donald J. Trump to be the leader of the most powerful country on the contemporary scenario.
It was a tough journey. Many democrats supporter, especially young people, weren't pleased by Clinton’s nomination (we’ll always love you Bernie!), a bunch of republicans have basically campaigned against Trump (yes, Mitt Romney), and some other republicans have supported him (oh Sarah Palin, you’re just sad). A variety of movie stars and singers have also made their allegiance public: some are with her (Miley, Madonna, Meryl, Ruffalo, DeNiro, Poehler…), some are supporting Trump (what’s the name of Alec Baldwin’s brother again?). This has been a journey that gave us joy (SNL DEBATES YES EXACTLY) and this week, just a few days before the D Day, it also made us cry when Donald Trump appeared to be winning against Hillary on the polls - TIME TO PANIC.
Which leads to an important question I’ve been (very dramatically) asking myself over and over :
How can there be hope in a country where half of the voters want Donald Fuc**** Trump to be the president?
Now, more than ever, there is a change that he will win. After America’s sweetheart Michelle Obama, perhaps Melanie Trump will be the next one to be called First Lady. Maybe the White House will soon be called the Trump House, maybe they’ll have a picture of him and his (if that can even be called) hair on buildings. There’s nothing more suitable than having a presidential election just a couple of weeks after Halloween: because this is horror, my friend.
I was - and still am - hoping that, after November 8th, this country will start referring to Hillary Rodham Clinton as Madame President. She is not perfect, it’s true. From polemic emails to possible corruption on the Clinton foundation, this country does have a reason to investigate. Investigate, yes, because being accused of something doesn't immediately make one a criminal. If she is being accused, investigate her. If she has done wrong, punish her. But don’t condemn Hillary (or anyone) without a trial. My personal opinion, which may be irrelevant but I’m just going to say it anyway, is this: I think she is awesome. Her dedication to children’s rights and what she has done for women in politics is honorable.
In all honesty, no one needs much to be better than Trump, but she is. Hillary Clinton is not only so much superior than him in all intellectual (and hair related) affairs, but she is better prepared than all presidents this country has had. As a non American individual (who technically has nothing to do with this but is dying on the inside with the slightest chance of Trump being elected) I would feel truly proud to be living in this country if she becomes president.
It’s almost time. There are still few more days of panic and paranoia ahead. The line between normality and apocalypse has never been so thin. What the internet is calling the “Season Finale of America” is coming and so is its unpredictable plot: at this time,no one knows if the end is actually coming, or if it’s just a new beginning. As Edward Murrow would say, (and this has never sounded more appropriated), to all of you who share my concern for this country that is not even mine, “good night and good luck. “
