Going through my pictures, I saw memories of my past begin to flood in. Each one a rich and memorable experience. I began to witness the development of an intricate character whom I refer to as ‘me’. One of the few characteristics that lasted throughout my development is my indomitable spirit, as quoted in Henry VI Part II, “I have heard her to be a woman of invincible spirit.” I am a strong, dedicated and ambitious individual willing to make use of all my experiences in the most efficient manner.

I grew up with a single parent and always wanted my dad to feel as happy as he could. As a young 6-year-old I developed a habit of pleasing people around me and wanted everyone to have a smile on their face even if it meant sacrificing my own happiness. At this stage, my identity was in others and how they saw me.

Soon I had to move to India and though it was a drastic change I learned to grow and develop from the situation. At that point, I believe that my identity was happiness in pursuit of excellence. I began standing for various leadership titles and saw victory at my doorstep. My identity had become leadership. I continued to strive towards coming back to America. In the process, I gained a lot of knowledge under the Indian curriculum, great teachers, and friends for a lifetime.

Of course, I always wanted to be a doctor but, I didn’t include it in my introduction till I realized that I wanted to come to college early. Coming to Mary Baldwin brought me one step closer to this goal of becoming a doctor.

Contemplating further I began to wonder if there was more to my identity than the above and I realized that my common sense and intuition added up to it.Though the young child in my memories is still me I have grown much more resilient and independent. What I now know is that I am a single person with multiple identities. What I decide to tell people is my choice. The dark storm of confusion as to who I am has vanished only to give rise to a spectacular rainbow of insight in my true identity. I am who I am, a happy young woman always ready to achieve. This is my identity.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
