You're Way Too Used To Honking, And 9 Other Ways You Know You're A True New Yorker

You might end up feeling savage every day you wake up.

NYC

Long Island and the Big Apple are two hotspots you have probably heard about. We all know of them as the city that never sleeps and the island that seems super depressing. I would say that people seem to hate the busy roads in New York. On the other hand, this aspect doesn't even take away from the city and island's importance at all. We have a lot of money, "attitude" and a rich financial system. Anyways, you definitely know how to be a true "New Yorker" when you pick up these 10 habits.

1. You drive everywhere to the sweet sound of never ending honking

Other cars on the highway are truly invisible to many of us. Most New Yorkers drive super fast on the highway to get somewhere quickly and definitely land in a traffic jam. And when you have people honking at you, it seems like a big mess. However, that is the beauty of being a true New Yorker.

2. You walk through the streets of Manhattan like it is all yours

Whenever you walk through the streets of Manhattan, it feels great to be confident. Most people feel a surge of happiness as they walk through the streets with pride.

3. You always have people asking, "Y'all from the East?"

Sometimes, people ask you where you're from and then make assumptions about everything. It makes sense to be dubbed a true New Yorker from the way you speak and such.

4. You never visited the Statue Of Liberty, like, ever

The funny part is how the true New Yorkers never visit the Statue of Liberty. With that said, most of them were brought up here and probably heard of the monument but had no real urge to go and visit the place.

5. When you look outside, people look so different and you feel woke AF

New York feels like a giant melting pot for the East. In other words, it is pretty easy to find people of all cultures, shapes, sizes, and backgrounds from here. I mean, it is hard to feel out of place. Who knows if you find what you seek?

6. You know you live near a city with the cool crowd

People who live in New York City get to experience the real life of a true New Yorker who lives in a bustling and crowded city.

7. You hear others say, "Hey, let me get a..." with no exceptions

People here in the city and island just want their orders taken without any problems.

8. You watch the ball drop on New Year's Eve... on TV

People who live on Long Island might find it easier to watch the ball drop on their TV screen than in real life.

9. You know you got that New Yorker attitude

Sometimes, people don't really care about what others do in a bustling city. Everyone minds their own business because they care for themselves. In reality, a true New Yorker just minds their own business—or let's say beeswax.

10. You slowly pick up that New Yorker accent like you own it

A true New Yorker would definitely pronounce some words with attitude and a slight accent. That's just how it is.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
