The True Meaning Of The Holidays

The holiday season is always one of the best times of the year. It is filled with family and friends and the occasional snowfall. December is full of different holidays that are a perfect way to get the family together, thus making December one of my favorite times of the year.

December is always the month I look forward to, even though I’m not in love with all of the snow up in Northern Indiana. To me, it means the coming of Christmas and the time I will get to spend with my family and friends. After a long year, it is a nice time to really rejoice for what you have in your life and devote time to those you love.

In today’s world, there are signs in the media trying to make you buy the best gifts for the holiday season, like the new iPhone, or biggest TV, or the most expensive diamond cut earrings. That’s not how it should be. The holidays should not be focused around getting the latest and greatest pieces of technology. We should not care who is getting the most expensive gift or the newest phone. Spending unreasonable amounts of money should not be what the month of December consists of. It is great to be able to buy your family or friends the “perfect gift,” but in all actuality, the meaning of the holidays is to be with the ones you love and enjoy one another's company. Time is the greatest gift you can give someone. Just being with them can show them how much you care rather than you trying to buy them the gift they will like the most.

Sometimes, the holidays also consist of family gathering together. Even though some might not enjoy it, or get annoyed at times with some unnamed family member, just remember that they are so many people in the world that don’t have the opportunity to see their family during the holidays. There are people out there that don’t even have family to celebrate with. So the next time you don’t want to go to a family Christmas party or holiday dinner, think of how lucky you are to be able to spend that time with them and have a family that loves you unconditionally.

So this holiday season, don’t try and buy the biggest and best gift. Think about what this holiday really means and why you celebrate it. Think of the wonderful things in your life and the amazing friends and family you have. Let them know how much you love them, not by buying them an extravagant gift, but giving them something that has a special meaning or the gift of spending time with them. Rejoice for what you have and be thankful for the opportunities you have had in the past year.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
