The holiday break calls for sleeping, relaxing, family time and a whole lot of Netflix. Don't deny it, we've all spent hours getting lost in season after season of shows on Netflix. Myself included. Netflix is the holy grail of winter break boredom and while you're lying on your couch or bed looking for the next show to watch, consider some of these classics to get into this break.
1. "The Office"
Everyone loves "The Office." If you don't, you're lying. Okay, maybe not, but it is a classic and always good to lighten your day with a few cheesy jokes here and there. Plus, it reminds you of how thankful you should be that this is not your actual job.
2. "Parks and Recreation"
Another classic comedy show about government employees of the Parks Department in Pawnee, Indiana. I started watching this out of pure boredom and haven't looked back since. Not to mention it stars Amy Poehler, so that should tell you all you need to know right there.
3. "Friday Night Lights"
This one is for the ladies and the gents. The boys get their football and the girls get their football players. Sports, love, family, drama and Landry's occasional awkward-yet-funny-comments and you'll be hooked. It's about a high school football team in small town Dillon, Texas, and all the drama of the players, coaches and just about everyone else in Dillon. By the end you'll find yourself saying clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose too.
4. "Sons of Anarchy"
Okay I have to admit this one I was a bit skeptical about, but it's truly addicting. It follows the story of a local biker gang in California by the name of Sons of Anarchy and all the drama that follows. It's a bit graphic but if you can get past it, the story line will keep you on edge through all seasons.
5. "House of Cards"
This is for all those fans of Scandal and political shows out there. It reveals the under the table drama and dealing of U.S. Rep Francis Underwood of South Carolina. At first I was hesitant about the politics of it all, but it's truly fascinating and really catches one's intrigue throughout. Definitely worth a watch.
6. "Arrested Development"
This show is truly a hidden gem. It's not as popular because it's older, but definitely gold. You're in for a good laugh while watching this comedy about a son whose rich father gets the whole family in debt when he commits fraud and he has to pick up the pieces of all the craziness to follow.
7. "Breaking Bad"
Award winning drama following chemistry teacher turned meth-maker, Walter White finds out he has a terminal illness and turns his old RV into an at home meth lab. If that doesn't sell you right there, I don't know what will. This show has won dozens of awards and has been talked about all over with good reason, if there was every a time to divulge yourself in every season, it's now.
8. "Criminal Minds"
A classic crime-drama tv show and also my heart and soul. I found this show on late-night tv then on Netflix and have not stopped watching it since. I could go back and watch every episode over and over. Each episode is a new case some of the country's top FBI profilers must dissect to discover who-done-it.
9. "House"
Almost as good as "Grey's Anatomy" (nothing beats Grey's), this TV drama follows Dr. Gregory House who solves his medical cases like a modern day Sherlock Holmes while throwing in a witty yet sarcastic comment here and there. You love him or you hate him, but you must respect him, the guy knows what he's talking about. Trust me you'd want this guy as you doc any day for the humor and the brains.
10. "Scandal"
Two words: Olivia Pope. It is her job to make problems disappear but it seems as though the problems are never ending, and to make it worse she had an affair with the President of the United States. My roommate used to watch this all day everyday and I caught a few episodes finding myself extremely confused but not wanting to stop watching each time. Drama, politics and somewhat romance? You've got the whole package right there.
11. "Gossip Girl"
You can't talk about amazingly addicting tv shows and not mention "Gossip Girl." Blair, Serena, Chuck, Nate and Dan, a.k.a. my idols. This show follows the lives of these teenage Upper East Siders who live the life of luxury and all the drama that follows with friendship, love, and anonymous web blogger revealing personal secrets of these Manhattan elites.
Happy Netflixing!
