True Feminism Needs To Make A Comeback

How the real meaning got lost

With the help of the worldwide web, I believe that the definition of feminism has gotten lost. Just like a rumor, it has been twisted, turned, and flipped to be something far from what it really is.

I recently came across a hashtag that has been going around the internet for some time: #FreeTheNipple. Apparently this is a feminist movement about how it is socially acceptable for men to show their nipples and for women it’s not. Is this what feminism has come down to? While there are women out in the world being killed for speaking up for themselves and men not being taken seriously when they say they have been raped, these “feminists” are more concerned with the fact that they can’t show their nipples.

I see women on the internet claiming they are feminists, and all they talk about is the unfairness women face in society. Meanwhile, men have to deal with these problems, as well. It seems a large majority of women who claim to be feminists have forgotten that men also get raped and suffer from domestic abuse.

Then it turns into an issue of women having to deal with models and magazine ads everywhere stating being thin is better. Women then begin to protest that they don’t have to be perfect and men should love us just as we are. Well, men have to deal with this too. Male models everywhere have abs and are tall and lean, making them believe they too need to look like that (shout out to Magic Mike). Female models and celebrities aren’t the only ones who get Photoshopped to look thinner.

When the time came for me to start applying to colleges and looking at scholarships, there were scholarships everywhere for females. Do males not need scholarships? Is it assumed that a male is set in life just because of his sex? Feminism has turned into a word meaning that all men are privileged, which is definitely not the case.

Feminists should be about pointing out the struggles that both sexes face in society today. Men and women should be fighting together for equality. More men should raise their voices without fear of being told they are not manly.

The term feminism has become such a sexist term, the word menism has come to be. There isn’t an official definition of menism, for it started off as a satirical movement. According to Urban Dictionary, it is a “belief showing the hypocrisy of first world feminists.” It started off as men pointing out nothing but the problems men face. When this movement started to become more popular and started to be taken more serious, the first world feminists did nothing but prove their point by getting mad and arguing that meninism is nothing but a joke. Well, if women are going to make feminism strictly about females, I feel meninism might as well be a thing.

Women not shaving their underarms and arguing that curvy is beautiful are not feminist movements. Underarm shaving has been a fashion trend since the beginning. It isn't against the law to not shave your underarms; shaving is a choice. Women are curvy. It happens. Curvy women don’t have to listen to all of those ads about losing weight. Skinny models being everywhere is an issue within the fashion world, not a problem with feminism. With first world feminists joining in on these issues turned trends with the help of popular hashtags, true feminism is hardly around. If women continue with this, feminism will cease to exist. Feminists will be seen as just a bunch of women who are hairy and protest in the nude against rape.

Feminism shouldn’t be a trend. Just because men aren’t as vocal about their mistreatment, does not mean that it isn’t happening. I don’t need #Feminism. I just need feminism.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
