Only True '90s Kids Know About This

To call someone a '90s kid just because they are born from 1990-1999 is too easy.

There's so much debate surrounding what makes someone a true '90s kid. We could determine whether or not you were a true '90s kid based off of numerous things, such as if you knew how to draw that cool "S," remembered hit clips, or frequented Blockbuster, because Netflix wasn't even imagined yet. Or, we could just ask what year you were born, and if you were born from 1990-1999, that would solve the debate. But, that would be too easy, so here's a test that only true '90s kids can relate to.

1. You're always the scapegoat.

Yup, if you're a '90s kid, you are very familiar with being the scapegoat. Whether it be for the results of the election, global warming, the economy, you name it, if there's an issue, it won't take too long before someone tries to link it to the millennial generation.

2. You're suddenly the tech whiz.

You should be able to add tech support to your resume at this point, because at the rate that your parents and other family members come to you for their technical difficulties, you would think that you invented the iPhone yourself. Yeah, you may only be able to boast that you're able to master the skill of helping your family figure out how to use the camera on their phone, but to them, that is genius.

3. You're already in debt.

If you're one of the people who fall into the earlier years of the '90s, then you're already trying to pull yourself out of that college debt. If you're still in college or about to enter college, you don't even know what has hit you yet. Just wait though. You'll feel all the glory of being a true '90s kid in due time.

4. You want a trophy for participation.

We've received this stereotype of wanting a trophy just for showing up; we supposedly believe that we deserve a pat on the back just for trying. You've been called lazy, narcissistic, or entitled. Not quite sure how we got connected with those labels, but the truth of the matter is that a lot of us are the exact opposite. Just cause we are staying at home with our parents a little bit longer than past generations doesn't mean we are lazy, perhaps we are saving up money. Our generation is more likely to go against the status quo and to find different ways to execute what needs to be done.

5. You always on that phone.

It doesn't matter what happens, an explanation for any wrongdoing will always be, "It's because you're on that phone." The assumption is that social media and being on the phone is making society more anti-social and less attentive than it has ever been, but people aren't going to be social, if they don't want to be. Occasionally avoiding social interaction isn't a novel concept, it's just the medium, using phones instead of newspapers, that has changed.

So, forget all the pop culture references that can decide whether you're a true '90s kid. You don't earn that titled simply because you remember Kid Pix or watched Rocket Power and Family Matters. And, don't even dare assume that you're a '90s kid because you remember Sean Combs, when he was Puff Daddy, or any of his other name changes. Just cause you remember eating Kid Cuisine and Flintstone's Push-Up Pops doesn't mean that you actually are able to fall into this classification. Don't be silly. The year you're born isn't a real indicator either. Only true '90s kids can relate.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
