A picture is worth a thousand words. Well that is the popular phrase we have heard throughout our lives. They each tell a story, trigger a memory. Some of the memories are pleasant, others not so much. Even the unpleasant ones can have a pleasant outcome, say, for me personally, I am very thankful for puberty. I write this article on August 19, also known as World Picture Day. This week I felt like sharing some personal background and memories with my readers, to relate to and feel more connected with you. From what I have chosen to include in this piece are luckily post puberty (well, most of them), I will not be too embarrassed. If you feel so inclined, I would love to see some personal photos in the comments section and how you relate to them.
1. A rare sight in December in North Carolina.
This photo was taken of my old house's backyard on December 20 a couple years ago. We were only a few days shy from having a white Christmas, which would be the most magical thing for me.
2. My grandmother's first cancer wig.
This brings back the memories of fall of senior year of high school, when my world came crashing down. My grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer in her 70s. Here is her fitting for her wig; around that time I saw her without her hair for the first time and lost it emotionally. Luckily, she won the fight.
3. High school graduation.
After thirteen long years of school, I graduated highschool. No one can take your diploma from you, you earned it. Also, I broke the statistic of being the child of a teen mom, graduating without a child myself.
4. One of my many little sisters and my baby, Snowball.
I like looking back at this photo at how tiny my sister was, and how much younger my dog looked. This was the summer before he was diagnosed with congested heart failure. They gave him less than a year, but he is still kicking three years later.
5. First beach trip of college.
This is the first trip as new freshmen and friends to the local beach at UNCW, the first college I attended. Lots has changed between all of us since this photo, but everyone is being successful in their journeys.
6. UNCW Dance Company.
Dance Company gave me something to look forward to every week, to show my passion, and work on my technique for one of the things I love most: dance. My favorite memories are of the workshops we had some nights, taking off pressure of the spring showcase.
7. A collage of me and my best friend.
I made this collage of me and my best friend (seven years strong now) for her birthday two years ago. Even though we did not go to the same high school/currently do not go to the same college together, we can text each other on a whim and pick up where we left off. Now at my new school I am significantly closer! I love you Sierra.
8. Imagine music Ffestival.
This was my first music festival and is definitely unforgettable. I met and recognized so many NC rave fam, and became close with the two that I came with. Going was a last minute decision and I don't regret it at all. Now all I do is crave going to music festivals. One day I will have enough money again.
9. Disney's "Frozen on Ice."
I took my little sister to her first ever Disney on Ice, which focused on the story line from "Frozen" that year. This is her playing in the bubble snow, as it is rare to get actual winter snow in NC.
10. Casting doors of Walt Disney World.
These are the magical doors that led me to officially become a Cast Member in the Disney College Program. Notice the resemblance from a certain movie.
11. My last meet and greet at Walt Disney World.
This meet and greet was sure bittersweet. Joy and Sadness had only been meeting for a couple of weeks so far in Epcot, and I just had to see them before I left my program. It's not goodbye, it's see ya later.
