Trick Daddy's Disgusting Comments Against Black Women

Last week, Miami rapper Trick Daddy decided it would be a fantastic idea to upload a video to his Instagram account giving degrading advice to black women. In the short video, he disgustingly refers to black women as ‘hoes’. He goes on to insult white and “Spanish” women by also referring to them as ‘hoes’. According to Trick Daddy, black ‘hoes’ need to tighten up or else they become “useless” as white and Spanish ‘hoes’ have gotten “spiffy” and implies that these women are more attractive than black women. He also goes on to state that if white and Hispanic women learn how to fry chicken then that will break the camel’s back and black women will be worth nothing. Yes, he actually thought this “advice” was good and uploaded for the public to see. It’s not surprising that a rapper has this type mindset against black women. With all the misogyny in rap, I was not all shocked when I looked at this video. If anything, I found myself becoming enthralled with anger. I can’t wrap my head around someone who is black degrading and disregarding their own race. As a black woman, I face this type of mindset from some black men. This mindset states that the body of the black woman is the only thing that keeps a black man interested. As a black woman, I’m more than just my body. I’m an educated woman who has a lot more depth than the type of clothes that cling to my breasts or butt. All my black sisters who have to deal with this type of mindset from some black men are far more than just a body used for consumption.

Trick Daddy also objectified white and Hispanic women, he also sees their bodies as objects. The only difference is that he compliments them instead of degrading black women. It seems to me that Trick Daddy only views women as objects used to satisfy his physical needs and wants. From frying chicken to looking “spiffy” to his liking. He needs to thoroughly get a grasp on reality, women aren’t required to be domesticated in order to be a good woman and keep a man. Women have the right to be independent and have their voices heard. Trick Daddy insulted not only black women, but all women because of his archaic views of what women should do in order to keep a man. I hope that his video sheds light on the internal discrimination black women face by their black male counterparts. I know there are plenty of black men who adore and respect black women, but I do think there are some black who insult black women like Trick Daddy. I honestly don’t know where this mindset came from. Is it a self-hating mechanism? Or is it the history of violence and disrespect against black women? Since slavery, black women have been objectified by slave masters by being raped and even impregnated because their body was desirable. I don't know how black men like Trick Daddy can makes such horrendous statements when the history of black women was debilitating and saddening. Black women have made so many strides throughout the years and it's always frustrating to see one of our men disregard us and disrespect us.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
