I'm sure we've all heard the news by now...our beloved actor Alan Rickman has passed away. I write this article with the utmost respect and sincerity for him and his family.
It's no surprise that Alan Rickman was an incredible actor. The way he was able to play a myriad of different types of roles and the way he made each character his own was just extraordinary.
Most of us know Alan for his outstanding performance in the "Harry Potter" series as Professor Severus Snape.
It's strange when an actor passes away because you feel like you know them but you actually don't. While we're all sad by his passing he's still with us in the work he left behind.
From interviews I've watched and read, it was no secret that he was an intelligent man. He saw the world for what it was and wanted it to be better. He was comical. There's that one interview where he's on Jimmy Fallon and they suck in helium and begin to have a conversation. You can hear the audience cracking up at the fact that Rickman brought up this game called "Rickman Off" that Fallon and Benedict Cumberbatch played. So Alan and Jimmy did their own rendition of it.
So one thing I'm sure the world will miss about Alan Rickman is the comical side of his personality.
Since he's passed, I haven't had a chance to watch any of the "Harry Potter" films, you know with school and everything. But every time I think of him, I remember when he stormed into the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom when he was subbing for Professor Lupin and the only thing he said was, "Turn to page 394." It's an iconic line but why? It's because of Alan's perfect delivery and portrayal of Snape.
As a Harry Potter fan, it was always strange seeing Alan Rickman in a different role because the only thing I knew him from was, in fact, Harry Potter. It wasn't till I watched "Love Actually" starring him, and tons of other well know actors and actresses, that I understood how diverse he was as an actor. Watching the film, I didn't feel like I was watching a movie with Professor Snape in it.
What I'm saying is, I'm sure we'll miss his diversity in roles. The way he was just able to go from playing mysterious and kinda evil (but not really) Professor Snape to a father and husband was outstanding.
At the end of the day, we can't really say we'll miss him because we didn't know him. However, knowing he isn't walking this same earth anymore is heartbreaking. Seeing all of the lovely messages from former cast members and friends, he was deeply loved by everyone he met. Evanna Lynch, a Harry Potter co-star, said in her tribute to Alan, "I am not prepared for a world without Alan Rickman" and I think that sums up how everyone feels right about now.
We will remember Alan Rickman and the legacy he left behind...always.
