Let me start off by saying that I am blessed to have a group of friends who all happen to be foodies. No one treasures dinner time like we do — no one. Now, some might be wondering, "What is a foodie?" Well, foodies are a special breed of people, they enjoy food at least 200% more than the average food consuming human. They enjoy the process of how everything is made, they enjoy a wide variety of cuisines, and oftentimes carry around 10 to 12 take out menus in their car at any given time. Here are a bunch of reasons to thank the foodie in your life:
1. Not Speaking the Language Native to the Restaurant, But Knowing How to Translate the Menu
Trying Indian food for the first time? How about trying that new Turkish spot downtown? Don't panic, invite your foodie friend to go with you (if they're not the ones who've invited you already). We (foodies) are trained and are ready for action when any foreign words appear on a menu. We may have never spoken a word of the language, but I bet you we can translate the menu if we stare at it long enough.
2. Nagging You to Try New Things
Are you a picky eater? Don't be! (Unless you have food allergies, then be picky please). There are so many new and fun foods out there in the world to try! Try that thing you can't pronounce, order something you've never heard of, live on the edge. Either way I guarantee you, you will be nagged to try whatever it is until you can't take it anymore (and then you realize it's good, and so you thank your friend).
3. Rushing You to Get to a Restaurant Before the Lunch Special Ends
If you're 10 minutes away from a sushi bar who's lunch special ends in five, buckle up. A true foodie friend will never let you pay twice the amount of money for food that would have been cheaper an hour beforehand.
4. Netflix and Chill? How About Food Network and Snacks?
There's nothing quite like watching a group of foodies watch Chopped. It's more intense than a bunch of middle-aged men watching the Super Bowl (I'm serious). Watching cooking competitions will heighten your culinary senses just as much as your blood pressure.
5. Enlightening You on the Differences Between "Good" and "Bad" Balsamic Vinegar
I don't know why, but it seems like every foodie I've come in contact with has seemed to bring up balsamic vinegar. (Please comment and reassure me that I'm not alone here).
6. Bringing You Your Favorite Foods When You Need Them the Most
Are you sad? Here's some homemade cookies. Are you run down? Here's a chai tea latte. Have you lost all hope in humanity? Have some baklava. Foodie friends know exactly what you need, and they're always there when you need them, because don't forget, they're your friends too. So take the time to thank those foodies, share this and tag them! You know you love them.
