A Tribute To My Little Sister
Jennifer Dixon

Growing up with a younger sister was always the worst.

My sister Brittany always seemed to get what she wanted and I swear my parents let her do things like get her ears pierced and get a cell phone at an earlier age than I did. She was always trying to be like me and hang out with me and my friends. That being said, now that I am in college I have realized how much I miss my sister. I mean 50 percent of the time we are fighting and clawing at each other when we are home but I still love her to death.

Having a little sister is such a blessing. You have someone who looks up to you her whole life and totally thinks you are the bee's knees. She looks to you for advice on fashion, music and pretty much anything you do in your life. I may have thought it was annoying at times but in reality, I should've been flattered. My sister was always there to play house or barbies with me. She was always down to throw a Britney Spears concert in the basement living room or put a sprinkler underneath the trampoline and jump on it when it was hot out.

When I went to college my freshman year, Brittany would always say how much she missed me and how lonely it was at home even though I went to school in my hometown and went home at least twice a week. That's when I started to notice that I actually missed my "annoying little sister." I missed watching our favorite shows together or doing homework in the hallway with her. I missed fighting with her over who got to take a shower first or who got to pick the tv channel to watch.

Brittany and I go to school approximately 15 hours away from each other now. We both are at schools away from home and it has only made me appreciate her more. I can act like a crazy person and be as weird as I want around her and she will still love me; she even thinks I'm funny sometimes. We have the same sense of humor so when I think something on Facebook or Twitter is funny I know she will appreciate it too. She always gives me an honest opinion on how I look and knows I will do the same for her.

My sister is an amazing human being. She is smart. She is funny and weird in the best way. She isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes in. She is strong. She will not let anyone take advantage of her and she sticks to her morals. She is compassionate and cares deeply for others. She is talented. My sister is going to school for pre-med and continuing to do two sports. She is an awesome diver and way better at pole-vaulting than I ever was. She is one of my best friends. I can tell her anything and talk to her about whatever. I will always be there for her and she will always be there for me. Brittany, I love you so much and I can't wait to see what life has in store for you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
