Leave them in 2016...

Trends of 2016

With 2016 coming to a close, I want to take some time and reflect on some of the worst trends of the year. From paint mixing videos on twitter to mannequin challenges on snapchat, here are seven trends of 2016 that I hope stay in 2016.

1. The Mannequin Challenge

I don't know where this video challenge came from, but I am so sick of it. I can't go to a party or a gathering without someone suggesting that we do a mannequin challenge. Not only is filming them annoying, but they always show up on my Twitter feed or on my Snapchat.

2. Dabbing

I'm pretty sure this one came from the song Lean and Dab. I never really understood the whole point of dabbing, but in literally every group photo I take someone is dabbing in it. Stop dabbing, it looks so weird!

3. Bottle Flipping

I remember flipping bottles when I was in middle school and I never realized this became a trend until I go out with friends. We will be out at restaurants, sitting in our dorm or just out and they are throwing their water bottles in the air. So many people have even began to post videos of them doing this challenge. I'm not a fan of this trend because no matter how hard I try, I can't get the water bottle to land right.

4. Harambe

How are we as a country still mourning the death of Harambe? It is terrible what happened to the gorilla, but oh my god will it ever stop. College kids are the worst with it, too. There are pictures of Harambe on bulletin boards and on doors. Not to mention if you are to go to a party, they usually chant something about Harambe. There are thousands of Harambe memes and tons of tweets about him on Twitter. Make it stop!

5. 100 Layers of Nail Polish

I think this trend is just so stupid. Who has the time to paint 100 layers on nail polish on themselves? I don't even have the patience to paint on two coats. There were tons of videos of this on Twitter and Youtube and they all have so many likes and views.

6. Paint Mixing Videos

These paint mixing videos have became more of a trend towards the end of 2016. I cannot tell you how much time I have spent watching these videos on Twitter. They are so visually satisfying to watch, but I hope they never resurface on my feed again because I wasted so much of my day watching them.

7. Kermit Memes

These memes have been so trendy on Twitter over the past few weeks. Everyone and their mother has been liking and retweeting them. While they may be funny, they are starting to get old.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
