It's April, and as I've learned, this is the absolute worst time of the year to be a college student. In fact, as Im writing this, it's about 70 degrees without a cloud in the sky, but I have been strapped down all day starting to prep for finals.
While finals is the main source of stress for the college demographic at this time of year, things really have started to ramp up for me, as I have been considering transferring all spring long.
Now, let me say before I get going here, THIS IS NOT A PITY PARTY, just a simple update to the life of Noah Bennett.
So since the semester, I have been really intrigued by the opportunity presented to me by the University of Minnesota (sorry, Badgers). The U of MN is a phenomenal school, and while its sports teams may not quite be like Wisconsin's, it does offer an enticing location, being in the twin cities, and boasts the same Big Ten label that Wisconsin does.
The main reason I have not been able to decide where I am going is because these campuses are virtually incomparable, being total opposites in the way their cities around them are structured.
Wisconsin boasts a community where the campus is the city, while Minnesota has a campus that is within the city. Both are good things, which makes it a very hard comparison to make.
On top of that, I have made real genuine friendships with those in Madison, which makes it all the more harder to leave those people behind, and have to think about rebuilding the community around me.
I think that another thing I find to be difficult is weighing whether it's the right time to transfer. I have only spent one year on this campus, and the two semesters have been night and day in terms of enjoyment. It raises the question that, if I were to transfer, would the same thing happen?
I think that the rational thing (but not really) for right now is to continue to put it on the back burner until after finals. If you know me, you know that I hate making big decisions, and really, this is the first big one I will be making on my own.
So, though this may be more of a blog than an article this week, I hope that someone out there feels the same way I do in considering switching schools, and as always, feel free to voice your Minnesota versus Wisconsin opinions to me, as I really have no idea what I am doing.
