22-year old Christina Grimmie, or commonly known to those who have followed her since the beginning of her youtube days as Zeldaxlove64 tragically lost her life Saturday June 11th. Following Grimmie’s concert at the Plaza Live in Orlando Florida on June 10th, she was shot by 27-year old Kevin Liobl who after shooting Grimme, shot himself.
Christina Grimmie posted her first youtube video at the age of 15, singing a cover of Hannah Montanna’s “Don’t Wanna Be Torn.” From this point on, her music career took off landing her with 2 million subscribers in 2013. In 2014, Grimmie auditioned for NBC’s “The Voice” and worked with Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine. Grimmie finished the competition as 3rd runner up and received multiple offers from labels wanting to sign with her.
Clearly a girl filled with exceptional talent, the event of her murder in Orlando is truly heart breaking. It is sickening to think that such an innocent and talented young woman is now gone so suddenly, at the hands of one troubled individual. Former coach Adam Levine tweeted: “Behati and I are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by Christina Grimmie’s death. Our hearts go out to her family.” Her authentic and nearly flawless voice will never be forgotten by the lives she touched and music will live on as well as her legacy. For those who followed Christina from her YouTube days to The Voice and beyond, it may feel like a piece of your adolescence is gone. As much as in your teenage years obsessing over celebrities may only go as far as through the computer screen, listening to Grimmie's music, her voice, and positive attitude, was truly inspiring. Thank you Christina Grimmie for the seven years of music you shared with the world and lighting up the lives of so many others.
