Christmas music: either you love it or you absolutely can't stand it. I was practically raised by Mrs. Clause, so naturally I love Christmas music. If you are a true holiday aficionado, then you can easily tell the difference between a true Christmas classic and the crappy re-done versions. Example: the timeless Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby" versus Madonna's horrible and very high-pitched rendition of it. Seriously, awful job Madonna. Be ashamed. If you are trying to weed out the good from the bad then just stick to this list: the 20 most popular Christmas songs.
1. Mariah Carey, "All I Want For Christmas Is You."
Pretty safe to say this is everyone's favorite song, and don't even try to tell me you haven't tried to hit that impossible high note. The SuperFestive! version with Justin Bieber is almost as good.
2. Thurl Ravenscroft, "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch."
Your heart's an empty HOOOOOOOLE! You may like the Jim Carey version better, that's cool too.
3. Faith Hill, "Where Are You Christmas?"
This song hits you in the feels. Every. Single. Time.
4. Dean Martin, "Baby, It's Cold Outside."
You immediately thought of that scene from "Elf," didn't you?
5. Jose Feliciano, "Feliz Navidad."
This is a great song, okay?
6. Burl Ives, "Holly Jolly Christmas."
If this song doesn't make you happy, then you're a liar.
7. Brenda Lee, "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree."
LeAnn Rimes's version is also acceptable.
8. Elvis Presley, "Blue Christmas."
Long live the King of Rock and Roll.
9. Frank Sinatra, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas."
Duh.
10. Eartha Kitt, "Santa Baby."
Still a classic. Still ashamed of Madonna.
11. Bobby Helms, "Jingle Bell Rock."
12. Bruce Springsteen, "Santa Clause Is Coming To Town."
The version of him doing the song live is the best one. Yes it is, don't argue.
13. The Chipmunks, "Christmas Don't Be Late."
Because they're so adorable.
14. The Jackson 5, "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause."
Aw, young Michael Jackson!
15. The Drifters, "White Christmas."
If you don't remember, it's in "The Santa Clause."
16. The Carpenters, "Merry Christmas, Darling."
A classic.
17. Kelly Clarkson, "Run, Run, Rudolph."
Put a little rock and roll in with your Christmas spirit.
18. "Frosty the Snowman."
Really anyone can sing this one. Pretty hard to screw up Frosty.
19. Stevie Wonder, "What Christmas Means To Me"
And lastly, a song I'm sure no one knows...
20. Dan Fogelberg, "Same Old Lang Syne."
Just listen to it.
