I am currently planning my study abroad experience for next year and already am planning all the places I need to see. Here is a list of the top thirteen places in Europe everyone needs to visit while abroad
1. Rome, Italy
Admittedly, I am biased. I am studying abroad in Rome and am beyond excited. When in Rome, you make a wish at the Trevi Fountain for your life to turn into The Lizzie McGuire Movie. Go to Rome, immerse yourself in the culture, eat your weight in gelato, and simply enjoy existing.
2. London, England
I’ve been to London and it is one of my favorite places in the world. Very fast paced, it also that wonderful historical feel. Visit Buckingham Palace, take the tube, and snap pictures of Big Ben and Westminster Abbey from the London Bridge.
3. Paris, France
Paris is another amazing city, and who wouldn’t want to go visit? Baguettes? Crepes? Croissants? Count me in! Let’s not forget Notre Dame, the Seine, and the Eiffel Tour on our tour of French cuisine.
4. Geneva, Switzerland
Geneva is a major international hub - the World Health Organization and a branch of the United Nations are based there. With so many different people and influences, Geneva is an experience. You can also swim in Lake Geneva which is always fun.
5. Amsterdam, The Netherlands
It’s Amsterdam, need I say more?
6. Berlin, Germany
See the remnants of the Berlin Wall, the physical symbol of the division between capitalism and communism in the mid-to-late 20th century.
7. Vienna, Austria
There are so many castles in Vienna, and Vienna is the birthplace of many a famous artists.
8. Venice, Italy
Venice is a very romantic city, but regardless of if you have a SO or not, GO! Take a gondola ride down the Grand Canal, go in February for Carnivale, just go to Venice and bask in its brilliance.
9. Barcelona, Spain
My sister sent my mom a postcard from Barcelona when she traveled there a few years ago and from that moment on, I have longed to visit Spain. Paella, matadors baiting bulls (is that considered animal cruelty?), and all the old architecture, it’s gorgeous.
10. Edinburgh, Scotland
While in Edinburgh, also make your way to the Highlands. Maybe you can have your own adventure like Claire in Outlander, sassenach.
11.Dublin, Ireland
Just look at that castle, wouldn’t you want to see that and more? Maybe find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? Or, y’know, go for the St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
12. Athens, Greece
Ancient ruins & Greek mythology. Enough said.
13.Reykjavik, Iceland
Iceland is just gorgeous. Reykjavik has glaciers and the Aurora Borealis. It’s wonderful. Everyone should see it at some point in their lives.
