From elementary through high school we were encouraged to read, read, and well, read. There were book fairs, reading logs, reading assignments, and essays. Through all this reading we found YA novels to fall in love with, classics, and youth literature.
When we finally heard about the film adaptations for our beloved stories we were enthralled that these stories would be alive on screen. But, it all crashed and burned. These are the stories, some you may have read, some you may have not, that have been poorly made for the screen. But do not let that deter you from reading the books because they are AMAZING (especially number one).
1. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
These books truly have a special place in my heart, but this film adaptation lives up to the name.
2. Alice in Wonderland
Disney goes goth princess. But, it may have been too dark. Also, what's a Jabberwocky? I thought it was a poem, not a dragon.
3. Twilight
Though one of the best movie soundtracks, Kristen Stewart's performance almost made me fall asleep, and Robert Pattinson's crazy eyes did not live up to this romanticized vampire novel.
4. A Series of Unfortunate Events
This tragedy was truly unfortunate.
5. The Host
A relatively obscure Stephenie Meyer novel turned film in order to spread popularity Unfortunately, this did not meet up to the futuristic standards of the film.
6. City of Ember
Though an amazing book and the start to Saorise Ronan's career, City of Ember did not produce many sparks on the big screen. Leaving those who didn't read the books or sequels wondering.
7. Beautiful Creatures
Your classic big, spooky, YA novel that everyone (even the librarian) raved about. The movie, however, was filled with plot holes, and omitted key information found in the book. Truly was not a Beautiful Creature.
8. The Giver
So much hype was around this book and movie!! Even Meryl Streep starred. But unfortunately, the film fell short of expectation and did not live up to Lois Lowry's iconic dystopian tale.
9. Pride and Prejudice
First, how dare you replace Colin Firth. Second, you must allow me to ardently tell you how many plot changes and holes are in this film.
10. Percy Jackson and The Olympians
I don't think I need a caption for this.
