The new movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, comes out on December 16th. I may just be a Padawan, but with a lot of help from my Jedi Master, Kevin Smith, here is a list of the top 10 best Star Wars characters.
10. Leia Organa
Princess Leia is one of the first characters you’re introduced to in the Star Wars series. She demolishes all princess stereotypes with her fierce confidence and fearlessness in speaking her mind. She takes on a strong role as a valuable leader of the Rebellion/Resistance. Also, her sensitivity to The Force makes her able to save Luke from Cloud City.9. Captain Rex
A clone Trooper who was able to become an individual and progress through his programming, Captain Rex was one of the only clones who took out their chip before order 66 was initiated and thus did not turn on the Jedi. He was crucial in the Clone Wars and in the Rebellion.8. Yoda
Master Yoda needs no explanation! The leader of the Jedi Council and trainer of Jedi knights for hundreds of years, is he. Yoda is the most powerful Jedi known in the universe as was shown in his fights against Count Dooku and Darth Sidious. Both Sith Lords used trickery to try and run from Master Yoda. Although Yoda ultimately failed to stop the Sith from taking control, his patience paid off in the end with the training of Luke, the final redemption of Darth Vader, and the fall of the Empire.7. Palatine/Darth Sidious/The Emperor
He was the mastermind behind the Empire and downfall of the Jedi! He was able to seduce Anakin Skywalker to the dark side of the force. This man is pure evil. Just talking about it makes me sad.6.Qui-Gon Jinn
One of the most underrated Jedi Masters! Qui-Gon was able to figure out how to live within The Force and commune with the living Jedi. He revealed himself to master Yoda during the Clone Wars. Qui-Gon had the perfect amount of Jedi responsibility and rebellion within him. He could have prevented the fall of the Jedi order if he didn’t meet his untimely demise by Darth Maul.
5. Han Solo
Han solo is the most loyal scoundrel in the universe. He is every women’s dream and every man’s envy. Even Darth Vader wants to be Han. Although Han puts off the vibe of being selfish, in his heart of hearts he is a brave and caring friend. He helps the Rebellion numerous times and saves Luke from Darth Vader in Episode IV: A New Hope. Han becomes such a crucial part of the story that by Episode VII: The Force Awakens, a shockwave of pain is felt through the Star Wars universe as we watched Han Solo die at the hands of his own son, Ben Solo (Kylo Ren).4. Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader
Skywalker Senior depicts the ultimate inner struggle between light and dark. From the moment Anakin leaves his mother to become a Jedi, that struggle grows. He eventually is consumed by his own desire for power. He even hunts down and destroys most of the Jedi who were not in hiding. However, it is clear that throughout his time on the dark side, he still fights with the light within. You can see his inner goodness come up when he comes face to face with his own apprentice, Ahsoka Tano. Despite this, Anakin still kills his own padawan without hesitation. Just how dark he is willing to go to satisfy his lust for power is shown in his pursuit for the Sith Holocron. While he goes deep into the dark side of The Force, his goodness resurfaces, and Anakin turns back to the light side just before his death.
3. Luke Skywalker
Luke serves as the bridge between light and dark for his father, Anakin. He is also tempted by the dark side, but never quite flirts enough to be turned (unless you count the expanded universe when he does for a short while). Luke not only saves the galaxy, but also his father. He was the only one able to reach his father through the mask of Darth Vader and turn him back to the light side.
2. R2D2
Everyone’s favorite droid (BB-8 is a close second). R2 has been through the Republic, Clones Wars, Rebellion, and the Resistance. He gives off just the right amount of comedy and bravery to make a droid one of the most beloved Star Wars characters. He is actually helpful compared to his virtually useless, talkative companion, C-3PO. When in the thick of it, it is R2D2 you want with you to get you out of trouble.
1. Obi-Wan Kenobi
He is the ultimate mentor! He mentors Anakin through his roughest days, and although Anakin turns to the dark side, it is not because of Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan’s finest hour (besides killing Darth Maul) is allowing himself to be killed by Darth Vader. By doing so, he is able to continue the training of Luke Skywalker and guide him whenever possible, even when his physical body would not have been able to do so. Obi-Wan possess The Force, knowledge, and self-discipline - a true Jedi!
Honorable Mentions
Wedge Antilles, BB-8, Rey, Bobo Fett, Ahsoka Tano, and Chewy
